Me and my brother tried playing Mageworld in multiplayer but we kept getting error massage: The selected game is not compatible or something.
So I tried connecting game on normal DS1 and also in LOA version, but I still get the same message, so the problem isn't the Mageworld itself. I removed all the mods despite they were inactive at the time. It didn't help.
All the possible issues I can think of is that one of computers has Win 7, while the other one has Win XP. Is there a possible incompatibility?
Also, since I have only one gameplay CD, I cracked the game on one of them. I have noticed that cracked version does not support DS MOD and DS LOA MOD, so is it possible it affects the multiplayer as well? Most recently, in desperate attempt to make games compatible, I used crack on both machines, so that they have the same EXE file, and yet it didn't help.
Can anyone think of any solution? |

Crack both games or use the CD to launch the game on one computer and when the game is launch, use the CD to launch the other one :).
I had no idea CD was needed only for launching the game. There is tiny problem then, that one computer has got broken CD mechanic(not sure how to say that in english).
Thanks though, I will give it a try
Replacing the CD Drive (mechanic) is a very easy task, there are three things you can do;
1. Replace the internal CD drive.
2. Add an external CD drive if you have a free USB port
3. Use a program like Virtual CloneDrive to make an image of the CD on a working computer. Send that image to the computer with the broken CD along with the program and use that to mount the image, to start the game.
I have done all three, I would suggest replacing the internal CD Drive, cost effective as a CD player is cheap. Takes a little time but if you can use a screw driver you should have no problems. Using and external CD drive that uses the usb port is very very easy but costs a bit more. The last will also work but takes the most time to create the image files and install the things.
Firstly, forgive me my english, I'm a mere student so far.
So, found out how to get the CD drive to work, I just need to be patient and help the drive with inserting and removing the CD manually. I gotta feeling that all I need is little empathy with the computer and follow it's current feelings
Thank you Bare_elf for your care, but I'm little ( a lot) noobish with both computer stats and manual work, so once my drive is too damaged, I will call my relatives for help, to ensure I don't destroy the whole machine
I reinstaled games on both computers, previously removing all the addons installed (Return to Arhok, Yesterhaven and Toolkit) and I noticed that on list of programms are RtA and Yesterhaven marked with DS2 icon and in description of both of them was stated same memory size (1990 MB I think, but not sure). I had one of them removed and the other one seemed to be removed by that as well. Got it thinking, is it possible that it was caused by instalation of Legendary Mod via the instaler? Because that is the only reason of such things I can think of. Perhaps it could be worth investigating, but perhaps it's just my computer's insanity.
Also, after reinstalation on both computers, I managed to finally connect online games, in DS1 and Mageworld as well. I didn't crack them, instead I used disc exchange method that HardLess advised me, and it worked perfectly. Thank you HardLess as well
There are so many different combinations of hardware, software and setups that anything is possible.
The DS1 versions of Return to Arhok and Yesterhaven are installed into custom folders by their own custom installer. The memory size would the size of the DS1 installation (it's 1.71 GB on my PC about 1,844,287,344 bytes - the inclusions of large mods like MageWorld could easily push that out to 1990 MB).
Uninstalling DS1 would naturally also uninstall both addons. Though due to a quirk of Windows, sometimes the list of installed games and program shortcuts will still show that they are there.
As for the multiplayer problems, all clients and the host have to have the exact same version of the game and any mods installed. Because the Legendary Mod is under active beta development there are very frequent releases of updates and version changes. So it is very likely that there could be a version mismatch between players and so causing the problems you are experiencing. I would recommend passing the mod by for the moment for multiplayer until this situation stabilizes (unless you are an experienced user who wishes to help solve some of the multiplayer problems the mod is experiencing).
I am not sure we understood each other, Iryan. Since I play DS 1, I don't need Legendary mod, no?
I was only suggesting that when I instaled Legendary mod via instaler, it could somehow touch already instaled RtA and Yesterhaven and thus it prevented me from playing DS 1 multiplayer. But I really am not skilled with this stuff, I only fiddle with simple GAS files :P
Yes if you're playing DS1 then installing the Legendary Mod is pointless and wouldn't work unless you have DS2 installed. It's primary purpose is to allow playing the old maps in a more modern engine.
The Legendary Mod installer only copies files from the existing DS1 folders and makes no changes to the existing files. It also doesn't even copy any files from Return to Arhok and Yesterhaven, as they are publically available addons there is no need. The maps and resources are included in the Legendary Mod as a convenience for those who have never played them.
Is possible have 8 players (NPC) from singleplayer in multiplayer game?
