Was this always here?

I've never gotten to a particularly high level in DS2. (40-50 being where my highest characters have capped) As such, I wouldn't be surprised that there are things in the leveled lists I've never even seen. But I have never seen an instance of this weapon in-game except for when I found it around level 30-40 with the Aranna Legacy mod installed, and it was an optional choice for the shield or mace in Lorethal's set in that case.

But I saw this in one of the screenshots for the steam version of the game and... well, that dude is wearing mercenary armor and I KNOW that isn't leveled until Hotfix/AL.
Has this sword always been in the game, even if it wasn't an optional piece for Lorethal's?

Furthermore, it doesn't seem to be enchanted here, I see no distinguishable glow. I'm thinking someone at Steam was playing with a modded disc copy when they took this screenshot. Or maybe that's pushing it...

EDIT: Actually the more I think about it the more I don't recognize that location, either. That little pad that they're standing on. Looks to be in the Vai'Kesh forest, maybe it's just something I glossed over and never really investigated or.. maybe there's a side-quest I didn't complete..

Curious.

One name this image can be refound on the web is 'Trespassers.jpg', it was part of the 'DS2_FanSiteKit.zip' from 2004(!) and possibly content of other (web) promotions too.

It's an interesting image indeed because neither terrain node nor sword appear in the final release of DS2.
Probably the image should show some kind of teleporter or dislocator hub. Amazingly the effect used (these purple needles, the steam in the middle) doesn't fit to the look/shape of that node at all, but it seem to be identical with the effect as finally used in-game on column-like teleporter stations.

The location of the image really reminds the Vai'kesh Forest or Arinth's Ravine, also the (dead) Naldrun would be appropriate for that region, but in the final game there are no (more) Vulk monsters there.

So would it be reasonable at all to say that the node seen there is still 'in' the game? Buried somewhere in there? Although I suppose someone would've found that by now if that were the case, considering how easy it actually is to view most of the files in DS2. If no-one bothered to take out the sword, it should be possible that the pad was left in there as well, considering they're in the same picture, so were likely featured in the same version. Honestly, I think I kind of like this pad more, but that could also be because it's different.

If it IS still in there and has just been overlooked by modders, maybe it could be used for some of these maps and Siegelets.. Released as a modders resource(not sure how legal that is, but I wonder if Square Enix even remembers that they still own it, haha).

EDIT: Actually, wow, what is that leafy effect around the character standing in the center? Is THAT a spell buff already in the game? I don't think so...
