Editing single player party?

I tried extracting the files in the dssave, but none of the changes I make to party.gas change anything. I want to do things like changing my party member's names (getting tired of ulora and gyorn and such...).

I tried making a resource file from the mp_fg_based (or something) file that talks about all the female party members, but the only successful change that came out of that was changing their portrait pics.

So, anyone know how to change a party member's name in single player?

Thanks!

Basically you will need to import them to mp, make changes, then put them back in sp. Changes done in sp will not take, only ones done in mp change the characters.

Wow with siegenetwork gone I wasn't expecting much from the ds community... much less this fast of a reply!

Hmm okay so I import them into mp using the game's import option... and then I edit them... but how do I import them back into single player? Thanks!

You would have to start a sp game with DSmod and import the chars you want from the saved mp game. The sp game can be created with a dummy char that you remove when the import is done. Once done start the new sp game with regular DS.

Unfortunately I don't recall the commands for DSmod that you need to enter into the console. There should be a command like help or something that brings up the most useful commands. Also, are you using the expansion LoA? If you are, then that can pose some problems when running the new sp game.

Good luck.

I don't want to hijack this thread or anything, but is it possible to adjust the game to allow 9 party members instead of 8?

/me thinks about DS:LOTR

Oh, and welcome to SiegeTheDay, Ta11geese3!

Yeah, I'm running LOA... I'll look into that dsmod thing anyways.

And thanks for the welcome, loneknight!

Whee I got it =D I searched google for dsmod help, and I came across a forum which had a post copied and pasted from siegenetwork XD So that made things very easy. Thanks guys!

Ack. It works fine in dsloamod, but when I try to load my game into regular loa, i get a content/save game data mismatch fatal error >_< I'm trying to make it so I have two elves from witness' mod (instead of one and ulora). dah.

There is a modifaction of the LoA map that makes the import possible. There is something wrong with the map itself that creates this problem. A guy named Iryan fixed it. Unfortunatelly I don't remember the name of the modification.

Cool. Where'd you find that website that had the copied SN threads?

Once I have opened a game with DSmod or DSloamod, I have never had any succes getting the game opened up with the regular executable game. Thusly I simply use either of the former to play with. As sol77 mentioned, there is a flaw in the maps, I guess. If you are using the elf mod from Witness, all you need to do to change the names is to press enter, click on the "?" and scroll down to the command "make new character name". I use a lot of clones when I play because I think some of the NPC's are kind of lame. The only thing with clones is that their portraits change to some sort of default portrait, but that isn't that big a deal with the elf mod, and as you mentioned earlier, you can edit your character portraits.

I am not sure if any of this is helpful to you, I hope some is useful. Smile

Here is a pic of my clone party of elves, (3 elves) plus my summoned Ulora (summon NPC spell mod)

Nice pic. Is that waterfall changed in some way, or is it look that way as a result of the nearby blue fog?

It looks much better than the standard waterfall. 8O

It is pretty, isn't it? It is from a minimap I am playing for LOA called the Blue Fairy Realm. All the little pixies and fairies from standard DS are there, but pumped on steroids and really cranky. No problem, I have some elves to stomp on them... Wink

(everything there tends to have a bluish sort of tint...)

I'll have to experiment some with that...I really like the effects of it...

Hehe I forgot about this topic! Thanks a lot, kathy. I'm going to go try that out =D

edit- how did you clone them and get them to look different? Are you still playing in loamod?

You have to use loamod, otherwise you cannot add in your other party members. After that I have never had any luck opening a saved game in regular ds or dsloa, so I just continue with loamod or dsmod. They work just the same anyway, except you use the tilde key to carry out certain functions (the ~ key underneath the esc key on the keyboard.)
Well, I am not sure how much you know or not so I will just give the long version...

Ok, well, this may sound a bit silly, but you have to think what color hair your primary char. will have. (unless you want all your portraits to be blondes...) I usually go with the very light skin when choosing a light elf, plus dark hair. Example:

Her portrait will have the dark hair. Open the game on a map, and save the character. I usually just save the game with the name of the elf, so it would be like saved game "suzy" (suzy.dssave)

Exit and choose your second character. It seems like the "default" skin for the light elf is this one (medium skin, blonde hair) so I choose that skin and hair for my second elf. Save this character with a game name like kat (kat.dssave) exit this game.

So that is the 2 light elves. The dark elf default portrait will have white hair, so I choose a dark elf and give her white hair because I have a thing where I like the portraits to match my characters.

Third game save is like "mary" (mary.dssave)Every clone you add into your party will have some sort of default portait type thing, which isn't bad with the elf mod because they all look nice anyway. Regular DS characters default portraits are very homely. Since I don't know how to edit my char. portrait it is just easier for me to go with default skin elven clones. ( I don't bother to clone regular char, only character mods.) After everyone is all done, I go back to my first person (suzy) and then add in the clones. Press the tilde key, type in "party add kat.dssave" and kat will be added. Repeat the process for "mary", and then you have a party of 3 clones. I guess you could add in another if you wished, but I usually go with 3 in my party, once in a while 4. That is where the summon npc spell mod comes in handy. I usually summon Ulora, but you can have Naidi, Gyorn, Gloern and Andiemus, plus a mule.

There you have it! Smile If you don't already have the girl armor and old lady armor for DS1 (there is also girl armor for DS2, as well) I would recommend those mods as well. Both are made by a nice girl named bare_elf and are available from Herena Forge. Both of those armor mods look very nice with the light/dark elf mod. Of course, I am assuming you are a fashion victim like me... Wink Laughing out loud

If I recall, the commands were "party [save|load|add]"
One of the tricks: do NOT have any spaces in the save file name.

Once you create a save from DSMod, unpack the savefile and delete the subdir contained within, then reTANK it.

The resultant save.dsparty should load just fine without DSMod...

Ok, I found the mod that fixes this.

Read about the problem here.

And get the mod here.
There's a readme that should help.

Balderstrom's picture

While it does look interesting - I don't think its neccessary, even its name is misleading: "DSLOA Map Transfer Mod" - looks to be more of a Map Transformation mod, which modifies what appears to be all the actor (evil & good) templates, as well as some map nodes - which I am much less familiar with.
-- Which has the effect of bumping regular mode into Elite/Veteran/Xtreme.

All you should need is the itty bitty piece of the readme file included in that 3meg mod:

Quote:

VI. Transferring Parties & Characters via DSLOAMod

1. Have a saved game of the party with a simply name like Transfer (complex names & the time
stamp complicates things)
2. Copy the appropriate dsres into the DSLOA folder (ie veteran.dsres for veteran mode)
3. Start DSLOAMod (found in start/programs/dungeon siege toolkit). Please note that some mods may
cause the program to complain or even abort loading, giving out GPCore Error Failure notices.
If possible just click on Ignore Always and continue on. If it fails, you may need to remove
a mod/s until it works.
4. Start a new game & select Legends of Utrae V2.0, Legends of Aranna or the Utraean Peninsula
(It shouldn't really matter about the character though some players recommend using the same
character as that of your saved game hero).
5. Your character appears at the normal starting position in the map.
6. Press the tilde key (~) which is the key that's to the left of the #1 Key
7. Now point your mouse cursor on a large, empty, flat part of the ground. It is important to
note that the new party will appear where the mouse cursor is pointing. So don't point the
mouse cursor at a building or steep gradient. Problems could occur.
7. Type this: PARTY LOAD TRANSFER.dssave (doesn't have to be capitals) & press Enter
8. DSLOAMod may give out an Error or Message at this stage if it finds anything abnormal on any
of the characters but should still load them properly, minus the incorrect items.
9. Press the tilde key (~) again to close the console and save the game as normal (even a quick
save is okay). Exit the game.
10. Start a new game using the normal DSLOA shortcut and load the game you just saved and your
old party will be there ready to continue on the adventure in a new map difficulty (as long
as the dsres is present)

To transfer a multiplayer character just use the character's name followed by the .dsparty
extension, ie; PARTY LOAD CHARACTERNAME.dsparty

If there are any spaces between words in your characters name they must be eliquidated ( lord
boceifus kane would be renamed to lordboceifuskane)( you can do this in the my documents/ dungeon
seige (directory) And if there's a time stamp that must go as well.

To create a party of multiplayer characters use PARTY ADD instead of PARTY LOAD. You can continue
doing this until a full party is made up.

It is necessary though. Without it you won't be able to transfer your DSLoa characters into a sp game. Not unless you want to play with DSLoaMod. It appears though that there isn't a .dsres for importing your party to the regular difficulty. I'll have to try it sometime when I am using windows.

Correct, I gave the party add command. Thanks for the trick about the spaces, I forgot to mention it. I have not ever been succesful at loading a saved game from dsmod or dsloamod into regular dungeon siege or dsloa.

to add in a party press ~ type: party add nospace.dssave.
(there needs to be a . at the end of the command, as well.

Great, now that we've gotten that sorted out, I am tossing in the idea of whether or not a 9th member can be added to the party. *A full DSPARTY is 8 only.

That would be nice..............

One level 136 CM
Eight Packmules to store the packrat's junk.

I recall one of the Controll Summon mods added a creature profile into your onscreen party list - but it had more than a few buggy issues (especially if your party was already full). While its very likely possible to do more than 8 ppl in the party - aspects of the GUI would need to be overhauled - like changing the allowed index ranges for dragging the profile.
Also there are screen space limits with 640x|800x -- not that many probably even use those resolutions.

I have problém with importing party to Utraean peninsula. As Balderstrom wrote i do everything, but i have a problem on point 10 star new game, when i try start new game with saved character from DSLOAmod i have Fatal error says: "This game connot be loaded due to content/save game data mismatch (67game object failed to persist), and system is now unstable. Sorry but there is no choice but to fatal...."
I try everything remove all mods, uninstal game and again instal, even create new character in singleplayer (lvl 0 ) and try import that character into utarean peninsula, the results are the same fatal error.
Please help.

Hey Legosp:

See if this mod will help-

In Legends of Utrae, I was able to get the DSLOAMod method working with 100% reliability by
removing the cause of the item mismatch errors which generally cause games saved under
DSLOAMod to be unable to be loaded in the retail version. The problem was debugging objects
called development path points which are only used by DSLOAMod, but are ignored by the
retail version of the Engine. However these development path points are still saved in
saved games as objects, but are unable to be loaded in the retail build as it doesn't recognize them, these causing an item mismatch error. This mod basically removes all the development path points from the retail maps so that DSLOAMod now works correctly

Thank you very much, now it´s work perfectly. Smile

And is it possible to keep a party from a sp game in order to play some sort of nex game + like the veteran and elite modes in DS2 ?

Check out the "Extended Mode" instructions from the lou (legendsofutrae) mod.

I guess the same method should work for vanilla DS1 (non-LOA) maps too, using the DSMods file rather than DSLOAMods.
