Help -- A very weird problem

I was happily playing DS1 Kingdom of Ehb testing out Kathy's new bow mod. Played for two hours last night everything was good when I saved. When I started up tonight there was a black screen that took up half the screen and within it there was a comment about my what my next quest was. it was sitting behind my inventory screen. Tried to make a screen shot of the issue, but the screen shot was normal. If I clicked on the X between my inventory screen and magic screen it closed everything. There are only two new mods that I am using. Kathy's new bow mod and ZhixalomsInv32_800x600 (mod for DS1 800 x 600 inventory) It was not the inventory mod because after removing it the issue was still there. Same was true with the bow mod. There is no problem with DSLoA. For that reason I did a full reinstall of the game. The version I installed has all the current updates. When I restarted the game still the same problem. I am sure it is not a problem with objects or logic files since they are used by both DS1 and DSLoA or any of the other files installed by the game the both versions of the game use. It causes a problem in DS1 with all the third party maps I have but not DSLoA. I am thinking that it could be world.dsmap however that was installed fresh and worked before. I have all of my custom mods disabled. Does anyone have an idea.

I changed DS1 to a screen resolution of 1024 by 768 and did the same with the inventory mod. Things work at least for now. I will let you know what occurs tomorrow. Wish I thought of that first, you stupid elf.

Now I get an exception detected error on every map in DSLoA it does not matter if the inventory mod is turned on or turned off. Ds1 is working fine. What do I do now. Note DSLOA.text is really DSLOA.Crash. but could not upload that.

You've got an old system there elfy, its time for a Windows 7 file fix and a Defrag me thinks, that will fix any problems with Win7 just leaving your LOA problem to deal with.

System file check is a utility built into the Operating System that will check for system file corruption The sfc /scannow command (System File Check) scans the integrity of all protected operating system files and replaces incorrect, corrupted, changed, or damaged versions with the correct versions where possible.

To do this, click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: Note, there is a space between c and /.

sfc /scannow

Defrag your drive if you haven't already done so, I can't remember where you would find that on Win7, hopefully you will know, after you've done that then we'll get down to your game problem.

Just update all your drivers: Motherboard + Graphic Card with fresh drivers for Windows 7 (32/64 bits). After that reboot

https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/132838/en-us - there is definately a newer video driver although not much newer here not sure if the nvidia auto driver thingy on site will find it or not - so pretty much do Ulyss suggestion first

with that said did u run the dxdiag thing that came with ds and loa after reinstall... the graphic card goes into another file does it record the graphic card in it?

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 - also may want to update directx

since win 7 is not supported anymore not sure if windows update still works, but it may still have some fixes if it bad enough

argh! It feels like you often have problems with my mods or in this case, if I suggest a mod. It's not my fault, really! Sad

I know you said you were having issues even after uninstalling mods, but if the other things get fixed you could double check that you have the correct version of the inventory mod installed. The DS1 and the LoA ones are incompatible. I've gotten weird looking screens and I once had a crash because I forgot to check which version I needed.

1.) How do you uninstall your programs? I used to use the Control Panel for this but started using Geek Uninstaller.

The reason I use this program exclusively (for the last 4 years) is because it does a better "clean up" after uninstalling a program. It checks for left over registry entries and other misc. crap that is often left behind. Yes, the program does make minor changes to the registry, but I have found it to be very safe and reliable with no issues.

Best of all it's a Portable App. If you choose to download the program, you will receive a message that will try to persuade you that you need the The PortableApps.com Platform, but you don't. I just stick mine in a folder and run them from there.

2.) I read your DxDiag and the crash file and noticed that you have Dungeon Siege installed on your "E" drive. Your E drive is almost full, with just a little over 8gb of space left. That causes performance issues, no?

Maybe moving some stuff on E to a USB could help. That is what I did when I received a low space warning on drive C. I'm know you are familiar with moving files between partitions but I'm not. Smile

Meh, I'm trying to help but I probably am not. Good Luck dear, I hope you get this straightened out soon.

Hi Bare_Elf

1) Your Graphic card: nVidia GeGorce GT 520 - driver: 23.21.0013.8813 11/09/2017
2) New driver: 391.35 (23.21.13.9135) 2018/03/25 (lastest driver (no more after that)
a) https://www.nv-drivers.eu/download-driver-for-GeForceGT520-and-Windows7-64bit-with-id-151.html
b) https://fr.driverscollection.com/_5025920456749df88c475d62086/T%C3%A9l%C3%A9charger-NVidia-GeForce-GT-520-Pilote-v.391.35-pour-Windows-8.1-64-bit-8-64-bit-7-64-bit-gratuit
c) https://www.nv-drivers.eu/download-GeForceGT520-drivers-for-Windows7-64bit.html (yes again this site just in case)
3) Install Dungeon Siege Aranna on your C (more place). Delete DS/DSLOA on your E - Use IObit Uninstaller version 11 or less for your Windows 7 (The best : https://www.iobit.com/en/advanceduninstaller.php)
4) Get ready to make a big back-up from your importants files (on your C) on other drive like Portable Disk (USB but very slow)
5) Put in save place (like Drive E) all your Drivers (Motherboard, Graphics Card, Sound, etc) + Windows 7 Pro + Key + all programs (+ keys) you like. Take note all your password. And don't forget Google Chrome (take note: adresses + passwords)

Why: just in case you have no choice to format C and make a full, fresh installation: Windows 7 Pro 64 bits + all drivers one by one. It's very long job but after your get a "new" PC.
I hope so you have a good antivirus like Kaspersky, Bitdefender, etc

Good luck

About DSVideoConfig.exe: always choose your graphic card but never take with TnL

-----------------------------------------

Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor
Monitor Model: ASUS VS208
Monitor Id: ACI20D9
Native Mode: 1600 x 900(p) (60.000Hz)
Output Type: DVI

Try to put your game with resolution: 1200 x 900 (4/3) or 1600 x 900 (16/9) ... with no mods to start the game.
And check one by one any mod to make sure you have no issues

Ulyss I will give that a try, with the video card resolutions you noted without mods. Kathy I think you are loopy. E Drive is 535 GB of which 527 GB is free (not being used).

First put 1600 x 900 on your monitor, after on any game. But good idea to install new driver (your driver is too old)

Drive: E:
Free Space: 540.3 GB
Total Space: 548.7 GB

Oh dear, I mixed up free space with total space, not to mention my inabliity to read numbers. How terribly stupid of me. Or "loopy" even. Thanks for clearing up what "free space" means.

I will continue as soon as I can. Since I am vaccinated for both covid-19 and flu. The hedgehog's school has asked me to help with vaccinations for Kids in 7th to 12th grades. Answering questions for parents who are not sure vaccinating their kids is safe. Also giving shots, I have that skill from previous jobs I have had.

I will let you all know when I continue on with video driver update and testing

You do have the base DS1 version of the inventory mod turned off in (or better yet, removed completely from) base DS1 resources when trying DSLoA, right?

Always good to double check the mod versions.

This isn't as irrelevant as one might think. When a program is borked and it needs to be uninstalled and then reinstalled it helps to remove the additional crap that's left behind before reinstalling the program.

Well, that's the theory I go with anyway.

Turning off the inventory mod does not work, but removing it does. made a folder for the two mods to keep them in when not being used. Works great no issues. Thank You Thank You.

Good that you found a solution. Sometimes it's the littlest things.
