Setting up good map lighting

Ok, I am passing knowledge I learned from mcarp(much credit to him) for good map lighting. I apologize for not cropping my images and restoring my defaults on my map. I'm strapped for time. This is a break from modding for me...

First to see your settings in se2 you need to uncheck ignore vertex lighting. Ok everything should be black now don't worry.

Ok go to lighting in se2's menu. Then go to ambient lighting.

Now in ambient intensity set the settings to the following:

General: 0.200000 (note you do not need to type in the 0s)
Object: 0.220000
Actor: 0.250000

Keep the ambient color the same. Then hit ok.

Go to lighting again and select edit directional lights . It should be blank for you(mine is already set).

Now click new. Use the default color. The color should be white rgb equaling 1,1,1. Go into the lighting tab. Set the orbit to 45 and azimuth to 65. Then set 0.700000 for settings intensity . Check all the boxes at the bottom except for on timer.

Ok click new again. Then select the new light and click on edit. Go into the color tab enter .5 for red, .55 for green, and .98 for blue .

Select the lighting tab on this new light. Leave the boxes bellow default. Occlude, draw shadows, and on timer should be unchecked. Now set orbit to 255, azimuth to 65, and settings intensity to 0.700000 .

Ok you are done grats. These are good default settings and look great. Toy around with them if you want something different.

Wow Savante thanks for all the tips, I'm finding I'm learning tons! Keep 'em coming Laughing out loud

Thank you, I'm trying to get one done a day.

Edit: was hoping to do one a day but lack time.

holy cow!

Speaking as a total noob I can honestly say that this is exactly the sort of thing I need.. I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer.. having it spelled out for me like this really helps to take away the horror. I get so worried with all the little icons in my task bar that I dont know what are doing there. This is a great help!

Kudos!

Woot, I'm glad it is easy to understand :). The se2 is a very complicated tool. Thank you for the feedback Smile .
