Anyone still play/mod DS1?

Hey all...wow, been awhile since I logged on here.

For nostalgia and great dislike of DS2 and DS3 I found a reliable torrent of DS1 and mounted the .iso's on some throwaway disks and got it working.

But enough about me...good to see there is at least 1 last bastion of DS'ers left. Planet Dungeon Siege is up, but some of the tutorials are missing.

I still remember basic stuff like creating your own armor, and a little bit about forcing them to be in NPC's inventory but I can't get a hang of skinning.

I managed to scrap together the tools for it but I can't get it to work for my life.

I'm working on a semi-conversion, recreating US Army Ranger school at Fort Benning...just a basic medium sized map going over urban, forest, mountain, artic, swamp and back to urban phases.

I have 3ds max 9 but can't get the SiegeMax plugins to work with it, and gmax is unsupported and for some reason can't find a driver to use so I cant work SiegeMax to begin with...unless anyone has a saved mod of models like m16a2's, ak74u's or something along those lines I'll probably have to do with dragon miniguns lol

And also even though I've been making the Multicam, ACU and BDU skins for armor I can't seem to get them to stick in game...I've modified the .gas that goes with the .raw...even tried tanking it in PSD form and it won't use my new skins.

So I guess what I am asking is if anyone knows how to skin (properly) and is it possible for making the weapons for my mod?

Thanks again guys and hope you all had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Years

The only guns I'm aware of are the ones Charietto and I used in the Halloween Special (which you can download here) and they require the templates/skrit/animations from the same mod.

There are some tutorials etc. on my site that may help with the rest, but quite a few of those are for DS2/BW.

There are some weapon mods floating around at Game Front, here's a link to one; http://www.gamefront.com/files/6436856/GUNgeon_Siege_v2

There's also Copperhead Retaliation which is a mod similar to yours but in a more futuristic vain using lasers and such, perhaps you could get some ideas from it though it uses a lot of advanced skrit to get the effects working.

That gun pack link worked...im not looking for really advanced custom animation stuff...sure it looks weird holding an M16 like it has a side carry handle but I'm not too particular when it comes to that.

However, I am still having a problem with the skinning, should I create a new armor totally to use it?

And as far as modelling, do any of you guys know of any mods that added boonie caps, or Patrol caps or even berets? If not, is there any sort of converter to turn those dungeon siege .asp extensions to 3dsmax files? I can't make heads or tails with it...or can dungeon siege accept other files?

As I mentioned before the gmax didn't work because it was unable to find an applicable graphics driver out of all three choices (OpenGL and the 2 others) and gave me a fatal error and refused to work with SiegeMax

You guys have been a big help thanks again.

At the time it came out, gmax was basically 3DS MAX 4.2 with rendering turned off and import/export restricted. That left it unusable without the host package that SiegeMax provided, which put back a single-purpose export. The import scripts were done by the mod community (although the author subsequently went to work for GPG).

However, the same import scripts would work in the full 3DS MAX and you could pass meshes back down to gmax via 3ds format, and convert to asp/sno there. For DS2 it was possible to export directly from the full 3ds max, as the exporters were available compiled for all the supported MAX releases. The asp files have a version header, and the early releases can't use later version of the asp format, so if you use the DS2 exporter for 3ds MAX, the results won't work in the DS1 engine.

It may be easiest to get the gmax working and leave the full 3DS MAX alone. The extra features of the full product are things the game can use. What error did you get when you tried to use it? I've had gmax crash when the video driver was buggy, but one of the choices (or more) would work on any machine I've tried it on.
