Tank creator 2 and Windows Vista issue

Hey folks-

I've been having an annoying problem with Tank creator 2 on my computer with Vista. The program works perfectly fine on my laptop that runs XP and I've been using it for several years now, but I can't get it to work with Vista. (I really dislike Vista...)

After having problems the first time, I tried running as administrator and running in compatibility mode for XP. Nothing helped.

There is neither a "browse" or "create" button(s). I can manually enter information into the field but that's it. I tried pressing enter to see if it would compile but all that does is toggle between simple and advanced views. I can tank stuff on the laptop without *too* much trouble, but still. Help?

This is the configuration setting. I haven't edited or touched it.

I just bought my first ever computer last month and it is Vista. I haven't had any problems with RTC so I am at a loss as to the problems you are having.

Which version of RTC do you use? I know there are 2 available.

I use the one from the modding tools section here. http://www.siegetheday.org/?q=node/1437

The main problem I have with Vista is it's inability to use DDS converter as it was programmed for use with XP. So I have to transfer files from my computer to another that is still compatible with DDS converter to get things done for the radar conversions etc. that I am currently working on.

kathycf - i am also surprised rtc dont work cause it works fine for me, i know it requires java so make sure you running the latest greatest java as vista by default dont come with java.

Well, I'm stumped.

The file that you linked Volkan, is the version I am using. Works just fine on my old laptop. I've had this silly (new-ish) computer for a couple of years now and figured I would finally get around to asking about the issue and it seems I am the only one to have it! D'oh! Insane Oh, and Java is up to date as well. I'm running the 64 bit Vista, I don't know if that would make a difference or not.

It isn't that big a deal to tank things on my laptop, we have file sharing enabled...it is just a bit awkward. Thanks for your input guys. Smile

@kathycf: Hm, does the Rapid Tank Creator for DS1 (2 files, RTC.exe + GUI.exe) still work on your Vista 64 ?

...because sometimes I use a modified Rapid Tank Creator from DS1 to make DS2 mods. I could upload it if you like, however it only anticipate these changes so if the RTC from DS1 would still work with you then modified RTC probably would too!?

I get the impression from looking at the screenshots that the problem is that the dialogs were sized for a smaller font, and the missing buttons are just off the bottom. If you reduce the size of the windows default font, you might get everything.

Then it will probably be too small to read anything, and you'll have to use the magnifier aid.

I was having the same problem with tank creator 1 as I was having with rtc2, so I didn't think KillerGremal's version would work (but thank you for offering to share it, KillerGremal).

However, I tried ghastley's ( NOT silly) idea about resizing the default font, which fixed the problem. I had the default window font at 134 dpi and resized it to 94 dpi and got all the dialog options and buttons. If I scoot my chair right in front of the monitor I can see without the magnifier. *cough* ( I was looking for a "Yes, I AM blind as a bat" smiley but it seems we don't have one...) Laughing out loud

I think the only issue now will be saving up modding projects to do all at once and then resize the font back to the larger size so I can see comfortably. Which is a very minor issue. Thanks ghastley and everyone for your input and suggestions. I'm so pleased this works now.
