Oh, I've been around but never left the continent (North America). I've been as far North as Dawson Creek, BC (mile zero for the Alaska highway), as far South as Florida (a couple times, once to Orlando and once to Ft. Lauterdale). As far West as British Columbia (a few hours short of reaching the coast) and as far East as New Brunswick (possibly Nova Scotia... not sure as I was pretty young at the time, but we were at the coast there for sure... my Dad bought fresh lobsters off a boat). Laughing out loud

What's the farthest trip (away from home) you've ever taken?

That would be when I went to the US. Had a blast there.

If you have to choose, which trip would you say has been your best?

- has anyone seen any sign of Jack-in-the Green, yet?

Sharkull's picture

Never heard of "Jack-in-the-Green" before... From:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack-in-the-Green
and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Man

Quote:
Primarily it is interpreted as a symbol of rebirth, or "renaissance", representing the cycle of growth being reborn anew each spring.

Therefore I assume you're asking if I've seen any signs of Spring yet, and while we've had a very mild Winter here so far, there was a fresh coating of snow on the ground this morning (~20cm)... so my answer is "no".

Have you been watching any of the Winter Olympics (Canada's doing awesome :!: )?

..should've looked under Tull..

Jack-In-The-Green

Have you seen Jack-In-The-Green?
With his long tail hanging down.
He sits quietly under every tree ---
in the folds of his velvet gown.
He drinks from the empty acorn cup
the dew that dawn sweetly bestows.
And taps his cane upon the ground ---
signals the snowdrops it's time to grow.

- it's on Songs from the Wood

I saw a crocus today - has anybody else seen new flowers, yet?

Arman's picture

Favourite emoticon? :diespam: :crazyevil: Crazy

Gawsh, I feel all left out of this forum and need to catch up...Hmmm

ok, here are some answers:

Loup_Ombrage asked "Favourite emoticon? " :badmood:
Sharkull asked "Who is your favorite author (or authors if you have multiple fav's)?"
Agatha Christie, Dean Koontz, Charles de Lint, Minette Walters, Janet Evanovich, Mary Stewart,Douglas Adams , Tolkien, John Sandford... erg, I could go on, but not enough room.
KillerMondoDude asked "What was the last thought that scared you?
Hmmm, well...lots of scary thoughts but my dog is 12 and I don't want him to die.
Sharkull asked "Who is your favorite movie actor / actress (any genre)?"
I am old school on this. Gregory Peck and a toss up between Lauren Bacall and Bette Davis
Sharkull asked "Do you play / have you ever played a musical instrument?"
erm, does playing the clarinet in junior high for 2 years count?
Sharkull asked "What's the farthest trip (away from home) you've ever taken?"
England and Ireland ( Also Nova Scotia, but that's not all that far from me)
Sol77 asked "If you have to choose, which trip would you say has been your best?"
The trip to Ireland and meeting all my distant relatives...England was nice too.
Sol77 asked "Are you a night- or a dayperson?"
Night
Arman asked "What's your favorite TV show? (Mine's Lost.)"
I also like Lost, both Stargates, Simpsons, Family guy, Robot Chicken, Futurama, Mythbusters and re-runs of Angel and the X-files.
Sol77 asked "Who is your favorite poet?"
well..3, Sylvia Plath, Walt Whitman and Robert Burns
Loup_Ombrage asked What's your favourite game outside of the DS series?
When I am not playing DS I am usually playing Scrabble, chess or this really goofy game called "Fashion Cents"
bare_elf asked "What is your favorite green food, that is not jell-o? "
Broccoli GOSH, I forgot this one! GUACAMOLE!! yummy!
I forgot who asked this, but fave bands/musicians include Eagles, GreenDay, Sarah McLaughlin, The Ramones, Mary Coughlin, Van Halen, Joydrop and Elton John. There is more, but space prohibits me from listing them all (Like with favorite authors..)

And now my question to you all:
Do you believe in Karma?

A: Can't say that I do since I don't believe in reincarnation. However I might be able to believe in such a thing as that we are rewarded in this life for good deeds. But that of course is not kharma.

Q: Do you believe in reincarnation?

Loup_Ombrage's picture

My karma ran over your dogma Laughing out loud

I belive in reincarnation in a sense, that when we die we (that is to say, our souls) become a part of everything thats alive. I also belive that animals have souls, but they wander as "ghosts" in a sense, looking at everything.... kinda hard to explain. I don't truly belong to any religion but I follow the Baha'i Faith (which I'm registered as being part of), because they set good examples to live by and don't beat up on other religions.

Q: What religion are you closest to? (includes wicca, pagan, atheist, Christian Atheist etc)

I think I should be clearer...I didn't really mean "karma" as part of any religious doctrine, but more along the idea of "Do unto others ..." or more to the point "What goes around comes around..." Do we have a free ride to be jerks to each other with no repercusions, or do our deeds, either good or bad come back and reflect on us? I guess that is what I meant by the term "Karma". So I guess that is still my question, but in a re-phrased form.

Do I believe in reincarnation? Honestly, I am not really sure.

What religion are you closest to? (includes wicca, pagan, atheist, Christian Atheist etc)?
I guess pagan or wicca...I believe that nature is spiritual and that all life is connected on a deep level. I also believe in the concept of a soul and that humans are not the only ones with souls. I was brought up as a Catholic, but I have rejected organized religion (No disrespect intended to those who have an organized faith)

Loup_Ombrage wrote:
...Christian Atheist...

(wow, I never heard of a Christian who didn't believe in God. :P ).

I'm and Agnostic Atheist.

I believe that there are some things which are unknowable to humans, and the existance or non-existance of God is one of those things... proof is not possible (given the limitations of the human experience), therefore I'm an Agnostic.

There's also a matter of personal belief (without proof...). I cannot make myself believe something as important as the nature of the Universe (or universes... ) without some semblance of proof... I just can't. Something is written in some really old books is not proof... neither is the "lots of people beileve it, so it must be the Truth" argument. I live my life relying on my own rational thinking mind to guide my way, and to purposefully delude myself into a belief system that erodes my control over my own most valueable life's tool, my faculty of reason, I would be killing a part of myself. A part I like very much. Therefore I do not personnaly believe in God, and I'm an Atheist (of the "weak atheist" variety... not be confused with Anti-Theist, which I'm not).

[edit]
Kathy just beat me to the punch, so I'll answer her question too...

I like the concept of "karma" / the "Golden Rule" (you know... the "do unto others" thing you mentioned), and it is a valid and consistent moral principle (IMHO). Treat people the way you want to be treated... This is an excellent guiding principle for social interaction. If you always take this perspective then you also have a strong starting point for a sense of justice.

Whether there is something in the Universe that will reward you for following this principle, I would say no... but acting morally can be rewarding on its own (fewer regrets, less guilt...).
[/edit]

Did I explain that (the Agnostic / Atheist thing) clearly?

Ok,Sharkull, I am going to say...Yes. Smile from what I can tell you and I agree on a number of things.

On a less serious note (for those who don't feel like anwering a question on Karna)

This one is for the pet owners:

Do you let your pet(s) sleep on your bed with you?

{I do! Everynight I go to bed with 3 males Wink too bad for me they are 2 cats and a dog....the only other "girl" in the house is my other cat, Sweet Jane, and she stays down in the cellar.}

my cat sneaks around at night - she's black, so I can't see her - but I know she's there...

Q: did you make someone happy today?

Loup_Ombrage's picture

Yes. Helping people is nice.
And I do believe in the "do unto others..." thing, not the belief though.
And I don't let my cat sleep on the same bed... he decides. Its amazing how much room they can take up....

Q: If you had a PSP, would you buy the PSP port of DS?

Hmmm, I can't answer Loup_Ombrage's question 'cause I don't have a PSP, but I can answer Blondin235"s ...Yes, I did. I made two people happy and one dog, because I took one out for lunch, gave one a hug and kiss and took the other for a nice hike in the woods. You guess which one is which... Wink

If you were a tree, which tree would you be?
(it isn't as silly as it sounds...I am a holly tree)

I'm a Willow(Saille) tree

Quote:
The Willow tree since ancient times has always been associated with death. In Northern Europe, the word witch and wicked is derived from the name of the Willow. It is considered to be a tree of enchantment. In Celtic mythology it is associated with the creation myth of two scarlet sea serpent eggs which contained the Sun and the Earth. These eggs were hidden in the boughs of the Willow tree until they hatched, thus bringing forth earthly life. The Willow is also associated with death as it is the obvious conclusion to birth and life.

And You?

Loup_Ombrage's picture

/me edits my last post to read "if" not "assuming" :P

I'm also a willow tree..
