[DS1] Legends of Utrae

- just reached Lang..

- this is indeed a beautifully crafted game!

Ah I loved LoU. Had so much fun with it.

Sharkull's picture

I haven't played LOU, but I sure plan to sometime. Smile

LoneKnight's picture

Same here.

shadow smile's picture

It's a very good layed out game. Kind of long game( cause I look for those nooks and crannies) ending pricless

I am right in the midst of playing LOU and find it very engaging. I like being able to finally play this game in single player and I think Irwin Ryan did an excellent job. I also like having different monsters to fight and having the choice of NPC's from different races to add to my party (Hi Shalindra...Hi Tiamut)
Wink

This is a very well made game, beautifully put together..
with some wonderful designs and colours..

..and the scenery really is quite breathtaking in places..

- the original Dungeon Siege/Legends Of Aranna game brings such riches in it’s wake
- this mod is a truly outstanding example of the art..

-----------------------------
..the world is full of beauty, and life is wonderful!

Oh definately...I did a screenshot of the road (by the river) on the way to the crypt. Very pretty.

Total absence of humor renders life impossible.

- it's all-action riot at the end of LoU

- does anyone have any tips on getting started with the next difficulty level..
- apparently, it only requires the installation of an additional file and a restart using DSLOAMod..
- but the installer is playing up, is there a conflict with DS2's version of the game editor..??

volkan's picture

The only tip I can think of is do not play with "Revived" if you are using "DSMod" to continue with same characters. When you boot up with DSMod it kills everything Revived adds to the game, and Revived quits working. Sad Other mods that alter the Gui are also incompatible with DSMod.

I've noticed that one of the errors relates to the 7600GT
I'm running a beta driver at the moment - could this be
one reason why the DSLOAMod load-up fails..??

does the load up expect a WHQL driver..??

DS2 seems very fussy on this one, as well..
- each time I use a non-WHQL driver on installation, I get set back to the 7600's
basic graphic settings - it's as though DS2 appears to be unable (or unwilling?) to proceed
..it also maxes the graphic setting at 1024x768, which is a peeve on a 19" flatscreen??

- I haven't got DS2 installed at present, purely for this reason..

- I'm hopefully picking up a 17" Dell CRT soon, so maybe I'll set it
to run on that screen, instead - still a nuisance, though..!!

All the video settings for DS1 are in the system_details.gas file, and I think it has the same name in DS2. If the gae can't find your card in there it will use a "best guess" which is often wrong. SJR was updating one for DS1 at least over at the abstraction forum. It may be compatible with DS2/BW as well.

I've been playing Abstraction again, just lately
it does look very pretty - with game speed set at 0.7, the characters
all move really nicely - Penny does an amazing flip when she
recovers from a knock-down - very clever stuff..
the EAX is nice as well - some new sound FX included..

- main character's using "Hand", so it's a new experience for me
- I've usually gone for the Bows, to keep the enemy at bay
- "Hand" means getting in close and fighting with fists and kicks..

- also got DS2 up and running at 1280x1024, which looks superb..
- using Ely's original Mark1 AllSave and Lady Femme's Camera trickery
- oh, and also the "No Rings" mod..

- Id post some screenies, but I've
- forgotten how to get a piccie in DS2 without the GUI in it
- does anybody remember the key combo..??

EDIT:
here's one with the GUI in..

- that's using the Beta vers 163.71 from NVIDIA..

I think it's CTRL + Print Screen... Smile

Unfortunately, you have to install a mod to turn rings off, instead of just typing in "-rings".

The mod I found just replaces the rings with null ones, so you still can't toggle them on or off, install the mod and they're permanently off.

If I understand you correctly (that is, if by "GUI" you mean the party pictures/menus on the left, and the interface bar across the bottom), I don't know if there's a definite key combo. I have sometimes gotten shots without the GUI by using either Alt + Print Screen or Ctrl + Print Screen, but both of those combos usually leave the GUI in for me.

The key combo is Ctrl-Print Screen. I used it to grab this screenie. http://www.siegetheday.org/?q=node/1040

- I want to run LoU at the next level..
- I know there is a way to import the chars at your previous game level

- the docs folder that LoU ships with, states..

1. Have a saved game of the party with a simply name like Transfer (complex names & the time stamp
complicates things)
2. Start DSLOAMod (found in start/programs/dungeon siege toolkit). Please note that some mods may
cause the program to complain or even abort loading, giving out GPCore Error Failure notices.
If possible just click on Ignore Always and continue on. If it fails, you may need to remove
a mod/s until it works. Legends of Utrae doesn't effect DSLOAMod at this stage.
3. Start a new game & select Legends of Utrae V3.2 (It shouldn't really matter about the character
though some players recommend using the same character as that of your saved game hero).
4. As the map is loaded, DSLOAMod may give out a GPCore Error Failure*. Just ignore it by
selecting Ignore Always in the dialog box that appears.
5. Your character appears at the normal starting position just before the blacksmith.
6. Press the tilde key (~) which is the key that's to the left of the #1 Key
7. Type this: PARTY LOAD TRANSFER.dssave (doesn't have to be capitals) & press Enter
8. Once again DSLOAMod may give out an error about unweighed meshes on one of the characters
(the Goblin) but again just click on Ignore Always.
9. Press the tilde key (~) again to close the console and save the game as normal (even a quick
save is okay). Exit the game.
10. Start a new game using the normal DSLOA shortcut and load the game you just saved and your
old party will be there ready to continue on the adventure in a new map difficulty.

To transfer a multiplayer character just use the character's name followed by the .dsparty
extension, ie; PARTY LOAD CHARACTERNAME.dsparty

If there are any spaces between words in your characters name they must be eliquidated ( lord
boceifus kane would be renamed to lordboceifuskane)( you can do this in the my documents/ dungeon
seige (directory) And if there's a time stamp that must go as well.

To create a party of multiplayer characters use PARTY ADD instead of PARTY LOAD.

- I can't get past point 2 - a mod must be preventing the transfer to DSLOAMod, as I get an error message
- I have LoH and Mageworld installed, but they're DS1, so don't affect this..
- not sure about Abstraction - and that DOES use DSLOA as a platform..
- can anyone talk me through what should be done to correct things..?

- at the moment, my CHAR is killed at the first encounter with the enemy - every time..
- that's just with the LoU starter CHAR, while the level dsres. is giving enemies a big power boost..!!

Abstraction gets installed into a separate folder with a shortcut of its own, so DSLOAMod won't look there. But that could be a problem if the character you're trying to move is an Abstraction one, because its template will be unknown. The same would apply if the character was built in LoH or Mageworld. Again they live in separate folders where DSLOAMod should not be looking.

For a regular character the worst that should happen is that some of their equipment disappears when you do the PARTY LOAD.

You should be able to cut and paste any mods in your Resources folder out into a separate one so you can launch DSLOAmod without it crashing. I'd expect any real problems to start at the PARTY LOAD, where the template on your character could be unknown to the base game.

Sharkull's picture

All I can recommend would be to look for non-GPG and non-LoU resource files in your \Resources\ and \DSLOA\ folders... (both are accessed by LoA). Temporarily move anything else and give it a try.

- gotcha re Abstraction, ghastley..
- good to know that's a no-problemo..

seems DSLOAMod is looking for data that isn't there..

- is there any way to repair/reinstall the world:global:sounds:vosounds file??

That is part of the LOA file tree, what mods are you running? May have to tank that file to a greater priority to over-ride whichever mod is the culprit. That is at best a temporary work around, and may not even work. That is the best advice I have at the present though.

Edit: Looking at the picture and notice spveteran is in your Resources folder and the installation instructions say:

III. Installation

Just move the appropriate dsres into the DSLOA folder.
If you want to turn Regular into Veteran, use spveteran.dsres
If you want to turn Regular into Elite use spelite.dsres

That may be the problem as well.

Yes:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905696

- wow, that's cured the DSLOAMod thing..
- thanks, Sharkull - right on the nose..!!

- now I have the problem of getting the old party details installed
- when I press the "tilde" key, the listing has a full-stop after
- the cursor - is that how it's meant to be..??

- according to the LoU (docs) ReadMe - shipped with the zips..
- the extra line I need to input is "party load name.dssave" (- without the "'s, BTW)
- but the editor adds that extra full-stop at the end, as well
- is that why it's not installing properly..?

PS: you're right, PhoeniX..
- I have already placed the spveteran, dsres file in the appropriate folder..
- should I do this after I have made the DSLOAMod entry, or before (- as I have done!)

The editor is parsing the command as you go along and auto-completing things. The dot separates what you typed from what it found to match. You can usually hit the End key to accept its guess as which command or operand you meant and then it moves the dot to the end of the word.

So you might type the p and see

p,arty

and when you hit End you get

party. load save etc.

(it lists the available operands - I don't know if these are the right ones)

But back to your problem of getting it to work. Do you get any message or does it just do nothing? One possibility is that it can't find the party, which it expects to be in the right "save" folder, so if there was a path override in the DSMod startup, you might have to copy it to a different folder to get it found.

- this one is from AbsoLoU..

- actually, it's DSAbstraction played in the LoU map..
- this is quite good, the enemy are quite often overpowering
- "hit-and-run" tactics are required on occasion..
- everyone's using the Hand skill, even Tiamut..!! :woot:

- it's a long slog, but we're gonna make it through - Fallraen is next up..

PS: I've dropped the re-run of LoU - and re-installed it all over again
- I think there may have been a conflict somewhere in the old installation..

- I've also started a "conventional" LoU as well - the aim being to go Uber Level
- at the endgame, so..

- I'll be beck..

LoU vanilla, this time around..

- brilliant game!! :woot:

Somehow, It makes me wanna play DS1 again.

I wonder how DS runs on PC nowadays. Time to do an install Tongue

I've not seen this one before..

- the warning sign makes me a bit scared..!!

- see you later, I hope.. :woot:

It is hard to navigate the first dozen times, but it gets easier. Laughing out loud

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6jWk5KWygo

I've been down here for 5 hours, already..

- found loads of chests; the loot is fabulous, and there's heaps of gold..!!
- only just reached the 3D staircase maze at the bottom, I could be here for days..

- if I'm not back in a week..
- send sandwiches by packmule..

- lots of sandwiches! :woot:
