Converting Lisa's Light And Dark Elves

I'm wondering if anyone is interested in converting Lisa's Light and Dark Elves from DS1 to DS2 BW. I think it's possible to make them new playable characters in DS2 BW. I also know of a solution to have armor for only her meshes. I learned how to do this with Ely's mod (from the Pinkie Merc). You just have to set up a phony skill, give the hero the skill to start off with, and use it as a requirement. That way other player models don't get messed up from the unique meshes. My main issue is that I'm not familiar with creating new heroes. It shouldn't be too hard to figure it out. Is anyone interested in such a project?

See this thread as I've made a limited version of them in a character pack.

Needs a lot of work but is playable.

Nice. I'll take a look.

Edit: Do you have a download link for it?

although it is possible the characters could be converted to broken world, the problem lies in the skrit and also if "Witness" wants people to use her work in a mod.

I thought she made it open source on her website, but I could be mistaken. I can't find it atm. Thanks for the reminder. If it isn't, I'll try to ask permission from her.

Edit: Darn, Siegenetwork is down. That's why I couldn't find the page to her mod. Hopefully it's not down for good. I figured I could contact her through there.

Edit again:

Opps, I thought it was a dead link. It wasn't working earlier. Now it's working :). Thanks!

got that from the readme

It's open source-ish. No nudity in what I'm doing, so sounds like it's ok.

It appears that all of the email addresses I have for Witness are non-functional even the ones not associated with her web site. I will ask around and see if anyone from back then that I am still in touch with has a current address for her. I bet if one where to check at project Brittanica and ultima they would know if anyone would. Hey Frilly Wumpus and U6P Zephyr have you seen witness?

Elf

I believed that the Light & Dark Elves were open source with restrictions - that is they could be used in an unaltered form with credits to the original author, Witness. That was the understanding I got when she gave me permission to use them in Legends of Utrea.

This version sticks to that agreement. It's the original model and original skins.

Some notes about the model that I discovered. They use DS2 farmgirl's animations so can dual wield and throw with the best of them. However they use DS1 textures for armor which could be problematic in DS2 (incidentally Strider's 978's Orc also uses DS2 farmgirl's animations).

My solution in the character pack was to use DS1 equivalents for each DS2 & Broken World armor texture with just one skin texture, with 6 variations. If you want to use DS2 textures you will need to convert them to DS1 format so they'll appear correctly on the model. Then if you want the different skin tones you would need to make different sets of armor textures for each skin tone! Even though you don't have to completely recreate the armor texture for each skin tone (just copying and pasting the relevant parts), the amount of work and subsequent size of the resource pack starts to multiply.

The issue between DS2 and Broken World is that each use a different version of character_camera.gas. Luckily the patch required to get the pack working in the other version of the game is a simple mod with a modified character_camera.gas in the correct folder structure.

I also tried to make the pack compatible with all other character packs available by including them in the character_camera.gas file. With the last version released I think it was finally compatible with Ely's Succubus Manager, Darkelf's Giants and Gnome's mod, Ghastley's Succubus Queen and DS2 Cat Mansion Boys and Girls. I did try to make it compatible with Volkon's (Phoenix) More Hair Plus but failed.

The nkk for the model, mesh, textures and animations exist in the DS2_CHaracter Pack and can be freely reused as long as the above mentioned credits to Witness are observed. Still it would be nice if she could be contacted, just for courtesy sake.

I bet her site will be back up by the time I finish creating a mod out of it. To use all the textures properly, I plan to restrict who can equip what armor. I may scrap that project altogether (My main project is a map from scratch). They could alway be made into pets, enemies, and NPCs. It might be messy to have armor just for her models (which look feminine rather than the manly GPG ones, lol) and the stuff GPG made. I think the models look great. Something of this nature might end up being done further down the road. I've learned and thought about DS2 maps for a long time and hate to let my skills and ideas go to waste. Her elves would make good NPCs for the first town of my map I'm working on. There will also be new content such as the exp scrolls I finished earlier today. I'd like to create map scrolls (port you to a region only accessible by the map scroll filled with creatures), but I'm not sure if I'll spend the time to figure it out if it's possible. I've mostly been testing things to see what's possible since I came back.

I'm quite off topic, but that's ok. I'd like to make my mod compatible with yours iryan. I'm sure we can work that out. It will be open source aside from the minor restrictions Lisa has on her wonderful elves. It won't be compatible with DS2, since it will use content from BW and design with BW in mind. I plan to release it in increments (map lvls player to 0-20 for example). If I had a story (not much story due to the amount of work), it'd be like a series.

You can use whatever you like out of the mod I started as it's mostly dead in the water and never got past alpha, mostly due to lack of dual wielding and throwing animations and the DS1 armor restrictions. I never received much feedback from it so sort of lost interest and got stuck with working some other projects like DS2BW Adepts.

Using some of these models as npcs makes sense and that's what I did in the Legendary Mod and also Adepts. Good Luck with your project, it sounds fascinating.

Edit: Actually I've been slack with some of these projects of mine. This probably would have been better released into the unfinished projects section here at SiegetheDay.

Don't feel bad. I only recently stuck one of my alpha maps in there. I also have a skrit that allows players to combine inventory items into a new item. Epistine wrote the skrit many years ago (beginning of DS2 modding!). I don't like how BW crafts stuff (too limited), so I might implement it in the future. This skrit is open source and If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to put it together and upload it. I hate sitting on it, lol. I was hoping to release it open source with some recipes, but I never got to it. If you remember way back at Game-edit, DS1 had the same kind of crafting spell. It could use more work, but I'm not too good with skrit.
