I Wish I Could Port Dungeon Siege

As pretty much everyone knows, Dungeon Siege runs pretty horrendously on newer systems, and it's a real bummer... and this really makes me wish I could port it and the gameplay into a newer/better engine, like that of Dungeon Siege 2.

I much prefer the simplicity of DS1's gameplay, but for whatever reason, Dungeon Siege will freeze as soon as I start up a game, and this has made me think of it even more. I wonder if it'd be relatively easy to port DS1 into DS2? I mean, I know the Legendary mod already exists, so at least you got the maps and NPCs down.... but how about the gameplay, or even the UI?

it runs fairly good on windows 7 for me so not sure why it not running well for u.

and from what I have played of Legendary, ds1 runs good in the ds2 environment.

For awhile, it ran fine on Windows 10 (with TNL off and DirectX 9.0c installed), but for some reason, like i said, it just freezes now within like 10 seconds of play.

DS2 and the Legendary mod run fine, it's just.. I don't like how DS2 added skills or the skill tree... or decreased the level cap.. or that monsters respawn.

i'm using primary hardware TnL, complex shadows, trilinear filtering with and updated system_detail.gas file based on this http://ds2.bplaced.net/sysdat/ds1/

imagine ds2 could be modded to do no skills, the skill tree could be wiped out in the ui by simple overwrite of that ui file, perhaps could even try putting the old ds ui in place...but would require much editing work on your part

Unfortunately, I don't have the knowledge to do this.

Another thing - and in fact probably the biggest thing I dislike - I realized is how slowly the potions heal you up. That much should be easy to change

I think ds1 heals slowly mostly cause of the slow drinking anims..but the healing potions have their "amount of healing" set in their potion templates, I think there is mods that change those values, abit most are hard to find now days.

a mod for potions can be made though just say what game u want them made for.

edit: here is the Bigger Pots mod for ds2 this should provide more healing in ds2 at least...

Thank you! At least that's one step closer... Hell, it sounds like it is a general improvement of the game.

Seriously. The potion balance is kinda sh*t in DS2.

P.S.
I've tried it with the mod, and it certainly is considerably better... except now too many potions drop and sometimes you still have to kite your enemies... which I'm really not a fan of.

have u tried the autoengage mod?, it makes attacking like ds1

Even better! I might even edit the controls a bit to be more like DS1... but it's not really needed, unless someone for some reason wants this, then maybe I'll make ti and upload it here.

Anyway, I might make it into a DS1 Legendary mod compilation for those who want it to be more like Dungeon Siege 1. Two mods, of course, isn't a whole lot, but it's definitely enough to make a small compilation!

And now we just need it so that getting a new mod doesn't mess up your save and I might be more or less satisfied. Yes, I know there's Elys All*Saves, but I feel it could be improved for Steam to allow one to just boot it up normally and be fine. I'm pretty sure you CAN edit the exe. Killah's Fix seems to suggest this.
