A program for recovering deleted files

garthagain's picture

After the problem I reported in the post "Windows 10 updates affect DS2 Cursor", were my Drive E was wiped clean, and I had to resort to a two month old Mirror Image backup, I went looking for some way to recover lost files.

I did find a deleted file recovery program that partially recovered some files. This was after reformatting Drive E, and doing the backup install. Unfortunately, in this case, none of the files recovered were of any use. Still, over 56gb out of about 450gb were recovered.

While it is speculation, I believe that if this program had been used before reformatting and installing the backup, all files could have been recovered.

The program I used is called Recuva https://www.piriform.com/recuva

I am going to continue looking into these types of programs, when I get the time. There may be one that will give better results, were things have been radically changed.

[Edit] I found a page reviewing file recovery programs, with download links.
