Don't forget your old acquaintances and something something

Should old acquaintance be (mumble mumble) and never (mumble mumble}?
Should old acquaintance be (mumble mumble) and never (mumble mumble}?
For oh something something, my dear
For oh something something,
We'll have a drink of kindness (or whatever).

Party Beer Laughing out loud

Well another year has come to an end and we have to get used to writing 2018 on our checks. Wait a minute, who writes checks anymore?? Shock Well I do, but meh. Anyway.

One New Year's tradition is to sing "Auld Lang Syne" as the clock strikes midnight, ushering in another year. Many people don't know all the words to this classic song, first written down by Scottish poet Robert Burns.

Scotland.org wrote:
In 1788 the poet Robert Burns sent the poem 'Auld Lang Syne' to the Scots Musical Museum, indicating that it was an ancient song but that he'd been the first to record it on paper. The phrase 'auld lang syne' roughly translates as 'for old times' sake', and the song is all about preserving old friendships and looking back over the events of the year.

The History and Words of Auld Lang Syne

The language of the original song is a little bit "inaccessible" to modern folks so over the years it has been dumbed dow...oops! I mean it has been modernized and it's a lot longer than I realized. Here's a couple of verses from the old version:

Quote:
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne.

Chorus:

For auld lang syne, my jo,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne,

And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp!
And surely I'll be mine!
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

If you want to read the Robert Burns lyrics, drop in to the link I posted above and check them out for yourself. Also, you can read the modernized lyrics at Newsweek.

So, what does this mean to you? This year you can impress and entertain your friends by singing the whole song. Preferably the Burn's version, so people can ask you what a "pint-stowp" is.

Welp, Happy New Year everyone. Here's hoping 2018 brings you health and happiness, and especially don't forget those old people or whatever. Wink

I'll be going to bed at like 10:00 pm since I'm a grump, plus it's FREAKING freezing outdoors! The temperature at midnight is predicted to be 1 degree F OR -17C . You'll get chilblains! Whatever the f that is.

See you next year! Smile

Well old friend I kind of forgot it was a new year. So I also forgot to tell my old friends here and elsewhere that I had not forgotten them.
So as the Cow Said "Happy Moo Year" So as the nudist said "Happy Nude Year."

... just a few more weeks for the rooster to crow before Year of Dog.

Well, it's a dog, but not *THE* dog, but I thought this pic looked a little bit wolf-ish.

To old friends and new ones. Smile

(hard to believe I have been a member here for close to 12 (!!) years).

Yes very wolf-ish, both Dog and I agree. But not a wool fish because once wet they have a hard time swimming.
