My (creepy) Valentine

Happy Valentine's (buy_sappygifts_cards_andcandy_yumchocolate) Day! Smile

So, there's an old Broadway show tune called "My Funny Valentine" which became very popular because it's sweet, sentimental and lends itself to many musical styles. Cover songs were recorded from various artists, including Frank Sinatra, Sting, Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald.

Here is Ella Fitzgerald's adaptation on YouTube

Quote:
My funny Valentine,
sweet comic Valentine
You make me smile with my heart

Your looks are laughable
Un-photographable
Yet you're my favorite work of art.

Nice and sweet, dontcha think?

HOWEVER

I somehow managed to find some vintage Valentines cards which are NOT sweet and NOT nice, even though I guess they were intended to be that way. Folks of yesteryear had some... "odd" tastes in holiday cards.

First, look at the expression on this kid's face. He doesn't look happy, like, at all. What he does look like is some creeper/stalker and maybe even a psycho killer (gasp!) in the making. See? He has his eye on you!!
Shock

A clown. Yuck. Need I say more?

This next one is my favorite though. She's wandering around a garden or something with her crazy crazy eyes focused behind her...on what, I wonder? And what's with the little wheelbarrow? Does a person normally have to use a wheelbarrow to cart around a Valentine and some flowers? Flowers, might I add, that one could...oh I don't know... plant at the head of a grave!?

I think the Valentine she's carting around is about the size of a human head. Shocked

If SHE can't have him, then NOBODY will!!
