In the name of the king

The other day Lone Knight and I were discussing things that could help improve the popularity of the game, and bring more members to the community. One of those things is if the DS movie turns out to be a hit - I really hope it will.

Granted Boll has a very poor trackrecord, but watching the trailer on what appears to be the movie's official site does make me a bit hopeful that it will actually be alright. And I really like that the story isn't just about going after a bad guy but also about saving your love - not a unique storyline but one that I enjoy. It also seems like the movie will feature good music and nice effects.

Here are two trailers for the movie in case you haven't seen them yet.

Trailer 1

Trailer 2

The latter one is by far the better one and is also the one that can be found at the official site. Now these are of course just trailers and the rest of the movie could be utter crap, but I am crossing my fingers for this one, or actually holding my thumbs as we say here. Smile

Yea it didn't look that bad, what disappoints me is the lack of all the other main races in that game. Droog, seck, etc. But it hopefully shouldn't turn out too bad. I'm going to see it regardless.

I was looking at my own code the other day thinking "What the hell is this guy doing?"

I will see it. I don't know if I will shell out $7.50 to see it, it will probably be a matinee half price kind of movie. But then, I feel that way about most movies out there and hate spending more than I have too.

I'm not even sure they will show it here in Sweden. But if they do I will likely see it just because it is supposed to be about Dungeon Siege.

Shocked, yea it does seem like they haven't incorporated many races from DS. And the krug seem different than in the game.

As far as Boll's past, that movie Bloodrayne was alright, except for the excessive gore (especially that last sequence where all the past gore was revisited in a flashback sequence).

I don't know if I'll see the movie in the theater (I just don't go to the movies very often, but I had to see Ghost Rider), but I will definitely buy the DVD.

You really can't expect that the movie will follow the game, even with movies based on novels there are many differences. This is partly to adapt a story to be told in an average 90 minute time frame, but also for other reasons. This is why I am so often reluctant to see movies based on books with which I am familiar...I hate them tinkering with the "original". But that is the way it goes, I guess.

I don't know. A movie you could restart when you don't like the way the plot's going would be kinda fun. "Let's go back a scene, reload, and try taking the other path! And I'll use a bow this time."

Maybe I'll wait until they release "DS1 Toolkit - the Movie" so I can have my own characters in it!

Sol it does look as if it might be an interesting movie and I hope as you do that the remaining parts are as good as the trailers. I did notice that some of the work looked as if it was copied from LoR and some of the Conan movies, I am not saying this is a bad thing because I like all those movies and watch them over and over again. Then I thought well even if the movie is not very good it might get the die hard DS players and modders to speak up and create something new for the games. If the movie is not very good I would also hope that people who play the game make loud noise and tell the world the game is better than the movie. Like I always tell people the Book was better than the movie, because you create the places and people in your own mind rather than having to view anothers thought images. Crap I am rambeling again sorry.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with rambling. Ramble on, girl!

Not only is there nothing wrong with rambling, it is a sign of a busy, creative mind. Often one finds that the most creative types have messy desks and I believe that minds as diverse as Albert Einstein and James Joyce were well known ramblers. And then there was that....hey look, I'm rambling too. :P Wink

Seriously, Lili, we love your rambling. I will second that. Ramble on girl! Laughing out loud

bare_elf, yes any publicity is good publicity as they say. Still haven't figured out who "they" are but I believe them.
Maybe it will get some old players to come back to the game as well, just to check if the movie really got it right. Or maybe to repair their memory and experience of DS that the movie might have soiled. ^^

But yea I would prefer that it turns out good so it will bring back old players/modders and bring new ones to the game.

Yes, it looks like it will be cool. Trailer 2 is a lot better than Trailer 1.

This has the possibility of being Uwe Boll's best movie yet, though given his track record, that isn't too hard. Still, I'm hoping that it's good. That will almost guarantee a DS3, because it's a great money-making opportunity to make a follow-up.

Most game-based movies were good, starting off with the Tomb Raiders. That paved the way for many more, but recently, they have been bad. Let's see what Dungeon Siege the movie has in store.

I won't see the movie, since I rarely do that anyways. We could show off mods in videos and upload them to YouTube to grab attention /shrug.
