Feedback

Use this thread for feedback that don't belong in the topic Site issues.

We'll take everything into consideration but we unfortunately can't make any promises to implement all suggestions.

Seems odd when you reply to someone's post your new topic/post gets inserted above their post, instead of below their post? or even towards the end of the forum thread...

Makes it kinda difficult to follow conversation (?)

This reverse sorting of comments is an option we've chosen to set with the site software. The standard sorting method doesn't work at all well in longer threads (identifying new content when there is more than one page of replies is difficult) and this is the best solution available. Yes, it is not ideal and it does take a while to get used to, but until certain behaviour is corrected within the software, I think we're going to stick with things the way they are. The alternative is worse (in the opinion of site staff, the last time we discussed it).

Latest first. Blog-style for folks who don't know how to scroll down?

And on another topic.. I seem to get logged out each time I reply - did anything change recently?

Not that I know of... everything works fine for me (IE7). Perhaps there's a problem with your cookies (or browser settings for cookies)?

If I'd used IE6, I'd suspect company policy changes, but I use Opera to avoid those.

This is a problem I wasn't having on Tuesday. Could still be a bad cookie, so I'll clear any from here and see if it fixes the glitch.

Since it also happened on an edit, I'll do this as a test.

Looks like deleting and re-creating the cookie fixed it. Oh well...

Glad things are working for you again. Smile

...and I have to say it again: I really like this site software. I just deleted a batch of 13 new SPAM comments and they were never viewable by non-staff.

Noticed them lurking, and was waiting for the eventual spam. Good new site software then.

Cool, the site is online again! Dance Thanks for all your efforts!

It doesn't look different. Is it new and improved, or just running in a deep pit where it can explode and nobody will notice?

The site went through a pretty extensive security patching and overview process. We are developing a plan to take the site through a vast amount of improvements. We will let everyone know what the plan is once it's a little more concrete.

I think it's not only about the look itself, it has to do something with security/safety resp. the long-term upkeep of this site.

Sometimes things don't grow as you would like to see it. Sometimes things may just get worse too.

So yes, it may explode in a deep pit (of despair), however it's probably the best case (form a global perspecitve) when you notice your beloved web site isn't here anymore - because it's evident then that something went wrong (and won't ambush out of the dark).

It's always a good thing when you can just patch the vulnerabilities, and don't have to upgrade to a new version that's "improved" to the point that it won't work the way you like.

Especially these days, where it has become fashionable to hide what's a control, so you have no idea where to click, until you've moused over the entire screen.

I hope any "upgrades" the site needs are compatible with staying comfortable to use.

Unfortunately it wasn't that easy over the last week. I've been manually patching the website for the last year due to PHP compatibility issues. The server that the site is hosted on also hosts a multitude of other sites. This caused us big headaches to properly keep up with the patching process and keeping the other sites intact.

We are going to go through the exercise of ordering a new dedicated server and moving it to avoid these issues. The core of the website has also been setup to easily pull upstream security patches without significant downtime.

This has been a major roadblock of going to Drupal 7. We have a few compatibility problems with some of the optional modules we have enabled. I've been working on moving the site but there is 13 years worth of content that we have to keep intact.

It's good the site is back, at least for now and hope that the vulnerabilities can be patched. I was certainly shocked to see it down for the past week.

One consideration is that I hope there's some way of preserving any download links on the site as so many unique mods have already been lost permanently. If not, whether there's some way of migrating them to some place like say Nexus Mods, which has a Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 section but there's hardly anything there.

It's sad to see that one of the most successful modded games hardly has any mod representation anywhere but here.

Our goal is to keep SiegeTheDay alive for as long as we can. In the event that the site becomes un-maintainable or "broken" we will put it into read-only mode and it will become an archive. From there we can provide a dump of all the files to a mirrored hosting site.

Please save all the mods there are so many that are unique and there is no resource left for the mods. I do not care if all my posts are lost forever even though I have devoted half my life to the site, Just please save the mods! That way I can die in peace, there really is no reason to live without SiegetheDay Crying

Great job in sorting the site problems out, I was hoping that you could fix it and you have, well done. Smile

I'm very glad to see the site is back up. Thank you to techie and brkopac for the work you have put into maintaining the site.

It's back again, again. So thank you for all your ongoing efforts! Smile

...who could predict that there are two critical updates within such a short time frame. :o

The country music song the Highwayman and the site have a lot in common. Wink They both come back again and again Dance
I was a highwayman
Along the coach roads I did ride
With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
But I am still alive
I was a sailor
I was born upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
But I am living still
I was a dam builder
Across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around
I'll always… etc.

Siege the Day you are still alive Smile
