Map Radar - Raw Conversion

Hi everybody,

I am new in DS2TK and just going through the tutorials of Siege University.

I got a question regarding the preparation of Radar maps. The tutorial says, the *.raw file, which is automatically generated by DS2TK needs to be converted in *.psd (or whatever graphics software - I prefer *.psp) format in order to be polished. Unfortunately there is no description how to do it. The link to the converter does not work anymore.

That's why I tried to open the file with my good old Paintshop Pro 5. There is a dialog, which needs to be entered picture size and things like color scheme (RGB,CYMK..). Than it creates a picture. However, this pic does not look similar at all to the map I created.

That's why I would like to know whether there is a special trick or tutorial to convert the file, and vice versa to convert it back to raw in order to use it for the game.

The raw files created by the tool will work in-game but are not ideal because they don't consider terrain that you can access (vs. inaccessible areas), and raw files are uncompressed (large file size compared to the alternative).

.psd files are a format used by conventional image editing software (PhotoShop, GIMP...), so for editing your radar maps (trimming edges, adding a white line border...) the conversion is needed. To do the conversion, look for a tool called "RawToPSDGUI". If you can't find it, let me know and I'll upload my copy...

After the editing you can then convert the psd's into dds files (they are recognized by the game and are much more efficient in terms of file size). For this, look for a tool called "DDSConverter 2". Again, if you can't find it, let me know and I'll upload my copy...

Happy modding. Smile

(Oh, and :welcome: to SiegeTheDay).

Several DS/DS2 tools here. I have more just not listed as well. By far the dds converter is the most downloaded file I have, apparently many other games use it as well. http://www.dsabstraction.com/tools.htm

Thank you for your hints. I managed it. Now the radar works as required.

Bytheway I found it easier to polish the radar map with Paintshop Pro without using layers or masks, just setting transparency to the black colour, which I used to mark the areas, to where the player can't go. Unfortunately, PSP does not work with *.psd files (as it is a competing product of Photoshop). So do you know some tools for converting *.raw to *.png (making the conversion from *.psd to *.png obsolete). DDS2Converter is also able to convert *.png to *.dds.

Glad it worked for you.

I only know of the one tool to convert from .raw files.
