PvP?

Hi! Can I please start a discussion around what is involved in bringing PvP to dungeon siege 2? DLL modding obviously... can we expect help from the devs? Is there some really painful reason GPG left this out? Cheers, __________ forums: |

Yes!
I don't know if DLL's will be necessary, and as for help from GPG, I find that they are most likely to answer specific questions about code, with fewer responses for more general inquiries. If you have requests for tool kit features, they have already responded to community feedback by adding ds2dll support... so it can't hurt to ask.
There is much speculation on this subject (ranging from it being intentional design, to a time crunch forced on GPG by M$...), but only GPG knows the true story.
PvP is going to be less playable with powers. One" brutal attack" is probably beyond what any playable character could withstand. The mobs have huge amounts of hit points compared with the playables in DS2, especially the bosses.
PvP may make sense with the powers turned off somehow, but then you need to play on a PvP-only map, like an arena, where no boss mob with a million hit points is going to turn up.
Feel free to register as well
Maybe there could be a mod that deactivates the powers or change them into something more balance for the PVP session. On the other hand, who will manage to get their brutal attack to hit first?
I think it sounds like fun using the full blown powers on a PVP arena.
Team play perhaps, where everyone keeps reincarnating so long as one teammate is still alive.
well how about this:
1. PvP arenas where damage is reduced by "handicap modifiers". these could be pickup items, or automatically generated. I would be very interested to see a lvl 10 player vs a lvl 60 player, where the lvl 60 player is "handicapped". It would be hell to balance but would solve a lot of problems.
2. Competitive quests:
PvP doesnt just have to be about dealing damage to other plays: what about having quests open to all teams: It can be a race to complete the quest or Highest mob kill score etc. Assuming we can get player teams reintroduced I think this could be a lot of fun as well.. Any one here got any expertise with Quest scripting that can put some thoughts to this?
Cheers.

I will be implementing pvp in oi's design when I get to that part. So much work to do, lol. I'm a big fan of pvp tournaments and such . I'm a x guild wars , diablo 1 & 2 , and everquest pvper. I was thinking item rewards would be nice for winning and a ranking system. I'm not a good coder so hope to get one. This will all be far ahead though . I wish gpg didn't take out pvp.
Ps I would like team pvp like guild wars has as well as solo.
Edit: also been a fan of fps' and waves of monsters with a team would be great for a sieglet. This would be a neat way to gain exp as well! And gain a points for that as well.
EditL Before I even realized that pvp was lacking in ds2 I wanted to make arena maps to start off with. I couldn't believe they didn't add it . Anyways the community will fix it.
Edit:
I agree with you here. Then again I have plans for tatical pvp and pve . I hope I an get what I want added in.
As an alternative to simple duels, I think "Capture The Flag" type team play could be quite entertaining. When the party member carrying the flag is killed, then the "flag" is dropped. Respawn dead parties at the home base with no penalty, except for location... No teleporting with the flag could be allowed either.
I wouls also like to see some coputer controlled actors as well. Thease could be "grunts" fighting for eighter side and some monster that attacks anyone that gets to close. So, you have just captured the flag. Do you want to take the shortcut through the dragons cave to make a speedy delivery?
this would be a lot easier if we could create "factions". gaining reputation in various factions could allow for allied NPCs to fight for or against you... Is there any possibilites for this? I mean setting up reputation values that will reflect your status in a particular faction.
FOr example: You are allied with a town. I am neutral. I attack you in that town. The town guards assist you and attack me. If I kill a guard my faction decreases further.
If you attack me in town while I am neutral, the guards dont care.
If I go and kill the enemies of the town, my reputation improves and I am allied with the town.
From then on, the guards defend whoever is attacked by the other, in the interests of maintaining the peace.
Similar to WoW faction i guess.
Yes this is all possible, but it requires a significant amount of coding knowledge.
Below image is pvp screenshot.
That looks nifty for sure.
Did anyone try this one?
