Leaving

Hey everyone. It's been hard for me to make this post. But, recent events have made it clear. I'm leaving this community once I finish Derelict. The fact that very little members are still even around this game, this community, and that hackers are destroying my favorite sites shows how far gone this community is. It makes me sad, to see where we are now, seeing how large, and strong the community was in '04 when I first entered it. Those were good days when one could expect to see dozens of different members post on a newly created topic within minutes, and when mods were highly tested, talked about, and celebrated. Witness has left, Eccentricity died, Uncle E has left, and Xaa has also gone. Many of our loveable community members left, too. GPG has seemingly abandoned us for the $$$. Now, it's the die-hard fans and the hackers left, seemingly. Not only that, but people are beginning to point fingers about the hackers, and it's destroyed the great community we all forged. I did my best to keep this community intact, convinced people to stay, stayed in touch with people already gone. I'm even working on a siegelet. But, it seems that this isn't enough to save this community. I've seen too many projects in my day that had given up even after they swore to not give up. That is why I'm going to finish this siegelet. Once that happens, this community can continue on without me, if it's still alive by that time. Lingering here is like watching a friend die slowly infront of you of a cancer or disease, knowing of how much better that friend was. Maybe I'll stay if things have completely turned around by Summer of '06 when Derelict should come out. But, judging by what has happened of the last year and a half, I don't think a turn around will happen. It makes me sad as well to know that Age of Magi probably won't have many players as well for the same reason, despite Aaron's commendable work efforts. That's just how I feel. If you think you can speak more truthful words than I, say them. If not, my days within this crumbling empire are numbered. Off to another rpg - probably one much similiar to DS - as long as it has a good community. "Lone Knight" aka Connor Norman forums: |

It is sad to see such a great member of the community go.
While I myself suspect that the community will pick up when more mods are made, I agree that it will never totally be the same again, with the loss of so many members, from SNs announced closure, the first #STD's crash, and the loss of Siege-Mods.
We can only wait and hope that the hacker will be routed and will not cause a final blow to the community by uprooting SiegeNetwork.
Sorry to hear your news. I wish I had been involved with DS in it's heyday. As a relative newcomer it has been disappointing to see so many sites/community members leaving, but everything changes I guess, that is life.
I wish you a fair journey my friend. As a fan I shall try to savior what is left of this community if it shall fall or rise from the ash. I will be their. Im glad I got to meet such a nice person. As Spock said "Live long and prosper"
Well, as I said in the message, I'm only leaving AFTER Derelict is completed, which isn't projected until Summer of '06 and if things haven't picked up yet in the community.
IF I do leave, I will occasionally pop out from the shadows to offer words of advice and the usual jargo I give. But I primarily post at SiegeNetwork. Talk later.
It's not easy times. I am splashing with the oblivion community now. I won't be leaving ds2, since there is no other engine that comes close to what I want to do. I am hoping the xpack generates more fans. The game is good for tcs and bad for the average modder. Oblviion is not flexible enough for me to leave the ds engine .Cannot add in new models, particles, and shaders. Very disappointed with oblivion's restrictions. I moved this to Offtopic because this is not about the site. Sorry to see you leaving and understand.
