[Looking for Brotips] Increase FPS on Netbook

Hello guys ! Is here some kind of guide how incrase FPS in DS2:BW ? I want to play on my netbook (Intel Atom N450,GMA 3150) I tried almost everything (lower resolution, shut off everything in graphic driver, raise app priority, shut off every unnecessary background process) and still around 10-15fps. Any more ideas ? I want stable 20+ fps but i have no idea how to tweak this game ! forums: |

dont bother with lowering the resolution, shutting off everything with the video driver and raising the app priority. ds is cpu limited and the video driver settings and resolution will not affect the performance.
the only "video" related setting that affects cpu performance is the object detail and shaders. turn the object details slider all the way to the left side (lowest) and set the shaders to none. less objects in the game world appear to reduce the load on the cpu. ds2 also seems to use the cpu to do shader processing, so turning off shaders can improve cpu performance.
u can also set the shadows to none to improve performance in town when there are a lot of npcs.
if u dont mind a little video artifacts, try adding vsync = false to your ds2bw ini file. disabling vsync can improve the frame rate but it will cause a flickering horizontal line to appear across your screen during play.
u also need to tell us your ram amount, os being used and storage device being used.
since netbooks can only support a limited amount of ram, u are strongly advised to use xp if u have 1gb ram or upgrade ur ram to the max 2gb if u are using vista or win7.
i saw ur other post about no space checks. are u trying to run ds2 on vista/win7 with only 1gb of ram? if so, then that (insufficient ram) is ur problem.
also, since ds streams data and textures real time from the hard drive due to the nature of the engine being seamless (no load screens except at the start), u also need at least a 7200rpm hard drive or an ssd. most portables use 5400rpm drives which will slow down the game.
lastly, another setting u can try is under control panel > power options. make sure the power scheme is set to either home/office desk or minimal power management. this disables the cpu from throttling which might slow down the game. however, this can cause ur battery to run down faster, so u are advised NOT to play ds while running on batteries.
Im running on XP SP3 with 1gb ram (just ordered new one 2gb! )
But! with vsync = false i have 5 more fps *yaaay* awesome! thanks for this tip
Oh yeah im not battery.Power Options are on max performance and "Super Hybrid Engine" is on "Super Performance Mode" (OMG it overclocks CPU from 1,66ghz to 1,7ghz )
But thanks for tips disable vsync helped alot
lol ummm 1gb of ram on xp is enough to play ds. was just worried ur os might be vista due to the no space check query... keke~
also, a 30mhz overclock is nothing to be concerned about. the atom cpu has a tdp of only 5.5w which is equivalent to the power consumption of a desktop hard drive at idle! lol so it will not cause overheating or hardware damage when the power consumption and overclock is so low.
for more stable fps rate, i suggest getting an ssd instead of more ram but more ram can improve the average fps too by about 1-2 fps due to deeper caching of disk IOs tho dont expect ds2 to fly with just a ram upgrade...
Argh so SSD is the best way how to get more FPS ? And which one works with Netbooks ? I dont know that much about Netbook version of SSD
Yeah that is nothing. There is also program Called "Set FSB".It is possible to OC my netbook to 2ghz stable.
But im fcking scared I dont want to kill my Netbook.
At least in a few weeks i will get my mobo back and i will be able to play on my 6-Core Desktop love
oh so ur netbook is just a temp replacement for ur desktop that had to be put out of action due to a faulty component? then never mind. some netbooks use 1.8" drive bays instead of the 2.5" ones so if u dont know the dimensions of your netbook's drive bay, u might end up buying something that wont fit.
i dont recommend overclocking a netbook too much as i dont know what kind of a heatsink is used or how good it is. if they used a passive heatsink for the cpu then overclocking it more than 1.7ghz is a big nono as it can overheat and spoil the cpu.
also, overclocking the fsb overclocks the ram as well. u'll end up running the ram at 800mhz since ur atom uses 667mhz ram. there is no guarantee the ram will work or be stable at 800mhz.
therefore in short, even if the cpu is fine at 2ghz, the ram may not like it running at 800mhz and u end up with a self defeating situation.
as for the ssd, its just to reduce the stuttering that occurs when u move around due to loading lag from the hard drive. it also has the benefit of making ur system more responsive even when not gaming. just something to consider but only if u got the $$$ and u use the netbook often when u are out and away from your desktop.
Yeah its only temp. replacement On my PC everything works great !
Nevermind i dont want to kill him with high FSB but im thinking about SSD
Anyways thanks for your help and disabling vsync is the way !
