ASP Files

HardLess's picture

Hi,

Am I really that stupid or it is really hard to extract files from an asp file? Smile
I tried everything and I just can't thing a way to use asp files in SiegeMax...

Thanks in advance.

You will need an import script. I'm not if the script I have on this computer is the right one. I don't have 3ds max installed. I might be the only one with the import script who frequents the forum here. I got them from Mcarp years ago. I know for sure I have the script on an old computer. The only issue, if I recall correctly, is that the imported asp files have their textures flipped and vertex weight messed up.

According to the documentation I have this version of Siege Max allows the importing of ASP files without the need of any other tools. I may be wrong because it has been a very long time since I have had siege max installed.

Elf

Thanks bare_elf this works fine with dungeon siege 1 asp files, but doesn't work with all ds2 asp files.

But anyway it's fine.

Thank you again.

Was that gMAX would only export, not import, the various files, (asp, sno etc.) That was their agreement with discreet/AutoDesk that allowed gMAX to be free of charge. With DS2, gMAX was already dead, and they released export-only scripts for 3DS MAX.

However, a modder called Lance wrote an import plug-in in MaxScript for ds1. That handled only up to a certain file release - which was the one before the export plug-in produced. So gMAX could not read back files it had written! The same code would work in 3DS MAX 4.2, because gMAX was a stripped version of that. Lance got a job with GPG, and stopped enhancing the scripts (because he now contractually couldn't).

Xaa and I enhanced Lance's code to handle later versions of the asp's, but didn't completely catch up with all the changes from DS1->LoA->DS2->BW, and there were problems with bone rotations at various stages. Sno's were much more stable, and I think the original code for importing those kept working.

SiegeMax is a gMAX wrapper, and there was at least one mod of that (i.e. a release of SiegeMax that didn't come from GPG) that installed updated exporters, but broke something in the process. I ended up using my own rework of that, until the machine it was on died, and I couldn't get all the pieces of software to install on its replacement under a later OS.

I don't remember where the last version of the scripts lived. I seem to remember DDLulu did the last changes, and they might have been stored at the Herena Forge when it went off the air. This (link on page) is the latest version I kept. It may be the same one.

I found a broken link on my site, leading to that. It would make it a bit hard to find.
