I'm not sure if this currently exists anywhere, but does anyone know of a mod that allows you to make a custom party?
If not, would anyone be willing to set aside the time to help me?
I'm really clueless to DS2's back-end, but would there be a way to use the new game character maker (or something similar) to maybe add party members to the inn's list?
My goal is to get a party full of my friends and make a series out of it for youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rbUtZ06Xx0&t=1s
I know it's not much to offer, but I'd gladly promote the site in the video, and would be willing to commission this mod if it's not too pricey. |

if u had broken world it would be pretty easy to make a party, using one of broken world's premade 39 characters and adding all the mercs in the first town and saving the game...if one finds the the character editor cheat program found on some other sites they could then edit those characters from the save game back to whatever level they wanted.
tank extractor can also be used to extract ds2party files and one could use perhaps notepad to edit them and then tank it back and it would work that way too.
Admittedly I don't understand what tanks means in the context of mods for this game. And I sadly never had Broken world, AND lost disc one of my original hard copy while moving So I'm going to order a new set off amazon when I can.
But I do appreciate the information.
How varied are the presets?
When one speaks of tanks in relationship to a mod. Tank Viewer allows you to open a ds2dres file so that you can see all of the sub directories and files found within. Tank Creator (several versions) allows you to repackage the ds2res file with the changes you have made.
I perset characters for Broken World are human, elf, halfgiant, dryad. You get a combat mage, a nature mage, a melee fighter, a ranger, and blood assisian to pick from.
Getting both ds2 and broken world on disk is well worth the effort.
PS Welcome Rehtael glad you joined.
Guess that's the route I'll be going down. That said, it would be preeeetty swanky if someone were to mod in a way to just build a roster from the start, then maybe have an NPC just outside the jail who applies the full party size changes and lets you hire people from the custom roster.
And I don't know how active I'll be in future, I'm mainly a Warframe and Overwatch player these days, but the only two DS games that exist have a special place in my heart. It's the first time I used "Rehtael" about 10 years ago.
Also Taar is the best. The absolute bestest. There is no one better.
Just put in the order for DS2 and DS2BW on amazon. If I have any issues setting up the mods, I'll probably defer to you guys for help.
First you would need to install the game from your new CD. Download the six slots mod, which gives you six slots in merc or vet. Located here https://www.siegetheday.org/files/ds2_6slots-1.0.zip. I know that iryan made a test map that had all of the DS1 characters in it, and I think he made one that contained all the ds2 characters in it. I will need to search the site for it. Then what you would do is go to the test map hire the characters you want. Save the game. Enter any map except DS2 or Broken World save the party members to the inn. Save and start DS2 play through the opening sequence. once you can go to the inn, you can rehire all the members and you are good to go. There are other ways to do it which I can tell you about if you wish.
Sounds great. Also, how customizable are the characters? Can I pick their appearance at all? Change their names?
Hi Rehtael. Some newbie info from a keen follower but, when it comes to making mods, a barely-started dabbler. Maybe you remember this, maybe not. Dungeon Siege (aka DS1) and DS2 were written by people who called their company Gas Powered Games. So their data-definition repository files (types .ds2map, .ds2res, etc) are "gas tanks"!
New game start menu lets you customise one character with whatever name you like. For appearance you mix-and-match options from a limited range of possible races (human, elf, etc), hair style, hair color, skin color etc. There are mods that enlarge the range of options in the identikit but even so, you still might not get close to matching how your friends look.
Short of running a "multiplayer" game from several different computers talking to each other, each with their own copy of the game, is there any way - anyone? - to get several thus-customised characters into the same game? Because if not then I'm afraid it will have to be a custom mod for the specific set of characters you want. As bare_elf replied there are mods here showing how its done.
P.S. With a mod-author's permission, it would be easy enough to produce a mod-of-a-mod if all you want to change is recruit-able characters' names.
P.P.S. You will notice that, as well as the actual characters, you'll also need User Interface portraits for them.
wasn't summon npc for ds2 ever made? seems I remember seeing something like that on site.
Never gonna forget the GPG logo landing on the gas gun goblin-bot.
And yeah, I was hoping there would be a mod that uses the main character editor to build profiles for new recruits so that way it would use the same method of generating profile icons as well as allowing easy renames.
I know now that there are ways to get similar end results, but I sure would love it if I could get my hands on something that just let me in the main character editor press a button or key to save the character to Inn roster or something so it would just go into every game. I'd imagine such a tool would be fairly popular as a mod on its own.
But as mentioned I'll be following other suggested routes first as soon as my new hard copies come in the mail.
A long while ago project brittanica created a character editor for one of their Dungeon Siege 1 games. Do not recall which one it was. I will have to speak with frilly wumpus to see which it was and then talk to a few people to see if it could be ported over to DS2.
Also if you have face shots of your friends we could always make icons for them and rename a few templates to show their names.
Cool
I'll ask around about the photos, but I think in-game might help me remember which character is which.
one could rig a pet shop seller to add 4-6 custom made npcs to the map, if one can place it on map near jail. all one would have to do is make some custom made templates similar to drevin that autojoins in the preview map... not sure if that would be of interest to anyone...but would be a quick way to map em in..or even load up a quick test map, with the npcs on it already, then add them to party, then load the ds2 map and start playing, may work who knows.
That's kind of what I was trying to suggest with the inn, but yeah, pet shop would probably be better formatted for it.
the inn only holds characters in it, they have to be sent first though... a small map with some npc rigged would be probably better in long run. but then would need to keep that file at all times to play the game, or could lose npc and corrupt game files
Are you saying the petshop owner is a better plan or the small map?
well petshop would require only one trigger, the small map npcs would require a trigger for each character and conversation to make them join...petshop can load their portrait, pick them and bamm they in, however think the autojoiner would work good for a small map, then wouldn't need all the conversations rigged. but then u would need someone to want to make a small map and do this project, which may take some convincing...but hey u got broken world on order so maybe just do the broken world premade and load them in, they would be level 39s and kill everything on ds2 map unfortunately.
This will take some testing then. I'll probably have to try out both and see what works better.
Just got the expansion in the mail today.
Still waiting on the main game. -_-
Beats the old 4-6 weeks days, but man...
So I was doing a test run with the steam version of DS2, to see if skype screenshare would work, and it doesn't like to capture fullscreen videos.
Does anyone know of a borderless windowed, or even a windowed mod for this game? Without it, recording episodes will be borderline impossible.
(Still waiting on the hardcopy in the mail. -_- )
You can edit the shortcut target line so that you are running in windowed mode. There are several posts in the steam forums for editing the command line. What is required for running in windowed mode is \Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege 2\DS2AllSaves.exe"fullscreen=false"
Steam puts the game in another location so the shortcut target line would be different but I think you get the idea.
Thanks for the help as always. If I'm lucky my hardcopy will be in today.
Thanks for helping with the windowed issue.
I'm seeing a few different options to achieve a 16:9 display ratio. What do you guys recommend?
I got DS2 in the mail today. Opened the box to find Discs 2, 3, and 4.
THERE'S NO DISC ONE. WHICH IS THE PROBLEM I HAD IN THE FIRST PLACE.
1. I edited the title to comply with site rules.
2. Contact by phone the site where you purchased the game. If it was amazon they will get you a good copy at no charge.
Didn't notice that rule.
But yeah, that's the plan. Still slightly annoyed that I saw cheaper versions and didn't want to risk "acceptable" condition and thought I was playing it safe with the 15 dollar used copy.
And a little miffed that I'm going to have to keep waiting on a hard copy.
we should have told u to buy the Dungeon Siege II Deluxe Edition, which was the last edition ever made of ds2...kind of misadvertising if they didn't send it with disc 1...they should be made to take it back..and reported for selling a non-complete edition.
It was a third party reseller selling through Amazon apparently, which I presume is their way of shifting blame if something is wrong with the product.
But they are going to refund the difference, so I can give this another go, I'll just have to keep waiting on the mail. On the brightside, recording for the DS2 episodes won't happen until we're done with This War of Mine.
Oh, I could buy the deluxe edition for pretty much the same price. I might just order that instead. I want some DS2 physical junk.
since u have broken world u wont need deluxe edition now though
If it's the same price, why not?
But that's if it's the same.
