Windows 10 updates affect DS2 Cursor

Early this morning, June 16, 2017 windows 10 did it's update thing, and I found I couldn't open DS2 (didn't try DS1). The load screen came up, but there was no cursor. Couldn't open the game. Along with this, my browser settings were skewed. and all my restore points had been deleted. Is this cursor problem a common thing? And is there an easier way to fix? blogs: |

What updates did windows install, either the names or the numbers? Do you have the updates set to install automatically? I have never done this because I want to see the updates before I install them. Even some of the important updates are sometimes unnecessary. The other updates I am very careful about. Such as video card, sound card and updates like that. I will always go to the product website and read the notes on the updates and then compare them with the notes about the update on the Microsoft Update Site. Often I do not install them if there is a mismatch on the notes. Or if it changes something I do not need. Again let me know what updates windows installed and I will do a bit of research and chat with a few system admin people I know for their input.
I don't let them install automatically. Two of them were Visual Studios, others were numbered. I don't know what they were about as they were wiped out when I installed the Mirror Image backup. As I write, windows once again want to update (mess up) my machine. I have gone into the update settings and think I at least deferred them for a few days. but don't know how to stop them forever. Windows 10 doesn't give you the option to refuse updates as far as I know.
I'm going to go offline before turning the machine off and on. Sure hope there's a better solution.
think the key is to make sure to create a restore point b4 the updates, make one with a name u provide such as garthagainrestore17june17 etc that way its easier to find
and make sure system protection is on so it will create restore points.

good news u r back up and running, sadly its a 2 month previous version so anything done in last 2 months is gone
Since I've not been into the game for months, could be caused by the latest cumulative "fixes", but my first suspect is the 1703 feature of Windows 10 which I've been on since April.
What's more, AllSaves "can't run on your PC".
The good news: DS1 is OK!

AllSaves - fixed by re-install (repair option was sufficient)
DS2 - run in a window (fullscreen=false).
I'm running windows at 1440 x 900 (my screen is capable of 1920 x 1080 but that makes text uncomfortably small for me) and DS2 at 1024 x 768.
I tried "fullscreen=false" in the shortcut, but it didn't work for me.[EDIT]-( I put "fullscreen=false" in the DS2 Ini. file and it did work, but I didn't like it. Not something I would ever use. A bit off topic, but you can get DS2 to minimize by using the Ctrl, Alt, Del keys. This brings up the screen with the Task Manager, and Restart options, etc.
Someone more knowledgeable than me might want to start a post devoted to Windows 10 problems. If insights and links were all in one post, it would make things easier to figure out.
width= and height= starting parameters are not needed, and using them seems to have no effect on the problem.
Correction: though I did choose 1024 x 768 by DS2VideoConfig a couple of years ago, I find that since then I've usually been running 1280 x 1024. I've now tested 800 x 600 too and even that has the problem.
P.S. As an aside, my Edge browser is broken too (so I am now using IE) since the 14th June updates which for Windows 10 version 1703 x64 means Update KB4022405, Security Update for Adobe Flash Player KB4022730, Cumulative Update KB4022725 plus the usual Malicious Software Removal Tool.
Having said that, Edge is broken on the desktop I normally use, but not on the laptop that is more-or-less my spare system for some offline play and work. (I haven't installed DS there.) I installed the same (nominally the same) updates there a day later.
I fixed the cursor problem with a mirror image backup reinstall. I just don't get windowed mode. Other shortcut commands I use do work.
I have to add I'm so worked up I'm considering a class action lawsuit against Microsoft for not giving us the one update we really need. The one that allows us to pick the updates we want, and forego those we don't.
Edge works on my machine, but I never use use it. I use Google Chrome, with several apps. As far as antimalware goes, I use Malwarebytes, and Windows Defender is running.

I am considering a class action lawsuit, the clock is ticking. Why? You do not give users the option to forego Windows 10 updates.
On June 16, 2017 Windows 10 did it's update thing, and I found a program essential to my work would no longer function.
I was just putting the final touches on a project, ten years in the making. In the process of getting things working again, Drive E, were most of my work, and other programs were located was wiped clean, before I had everything backed up. I had to resort to a two month old Mirror Image Backup.
It is not important what this project is, or what the updates were. What is important is that this project was scheduled for release in July 2017, and there are at very least over 130 people waiting in anticipation. I find I must now redo things as best I can, and there is a good chance the project's release will be delayed. I am looking at minimum of a month of extra work.
I am of course hoping a lawsuit is not necessary. If so, you only have to look online to see there are a lot of people experiencing problems similar to mine. There is no doubt that if a class action lawsuit does proceed, it would get a lot of support. While Microsoft is the owner of Widows 10, what you have to consider is that people have bought this program with every expectation it would be reliable and safe to use. This is what they expect and this is what they deserve.

How do I make sure Microsoft gets the message?
I find a solution long time ago about games don't work with Windows 8.1: I install a multiboot with windows 7. And I delete it but no choice soon to do the same thing with Windows 10 (+ Windows 8.1). I want to install Windows 10 on SSD Pcie (M2 - 520 Go)...
You need to have automatic updates to Windows 10 turned off anyway. There's a bug in the process (not acknowledged by Microsoft as far as I know) where the update process will use 75% of your CPU looking for more updates and not finding any. It doesn't even seem to be accessing the network to look for them.
The only safe way to run Win 10 is to nuke it from orbit.
