Hello friends, it is a great pleasure to begin to share with you news about my current progress on the updating of the map ROK for Dungeon Siege. The Realm of Kings over the years has acquired some popularity and as the original designer of the project (working alone) I have had great freedoms to express myself in an artistic manner that I truly enjoy. I have many inspirations over the years due to wonderful people such as yourselves and without the community none of this FUN would have been possible. Here are the Official Areas.. (ALL AREAS) of The Realm of Kings...

1. Your Farmhouse - - - - some bushes..small krug.. a grizzly bear

2. Tyramul Forest - - - - Beautiful Forest, creatures, bugs, krugs, and mucosa

3. Aenoth Swamp - - - - Big Spider, green area, woody, rooty, blue lit rivers, cliffs, cliff grasses, mushrooms flourescent

4. Small Cliffway to Dromnar - - - - Scenic, ambient lighting, no creatures.

5. to the LEFT.. Crepid Pit - - - - you are high up on the cliffs looking down into the first PIT FULL of monsters

6. City of Dromnar - - - - sleepy town.. shake off the battles, upgrade your gear, drink with that crazy dwarf

7. Dromnar Woods which leads into the very exciting and beautiful Deep Tonvar Forest!!

8. Aenoth Ruins - - - - Most important region in the game. Lit pillars in bottom of pits, huge HUGE EPIC FIGHT on top of Aeonoth Ruins.. huge!

10. Deep Tonvar Forest City/Shop area right outside of the Tonvar Keep

11. Tonvar Keep - - - King Tonvar is there.. sitting on his throne unable to defeat the evil minions.

12. Thornvale Forest?? -- maybe thats the name.. this is the place where it really looks like there is water and weather, a crazy mood.

13 Thornvale Falls - - - Probably the BEST portion of the map in terms of effect... its a super dreamy waterfall with millions of mushrooms..kinda

14. City of Thornvale - - - A beautiful second city that allows you to equip your better gear that you earned and has increased storyline...

15. Tyramoss Wilderness - - - Wonderful woody area natural sounds, exceptional lighting (for the time early 2004) with tons of bandits and robotic flamethrowing tanks as well as some evil magic users.

16. PIT GreyDrak Horror - - - Huge Green swampy cavern with White Mezzolanthus (drake/dragon) defending the Black Mezzolanthus deep within.. tons of baddies in there.

17. Bastonian Plane - - - A dark orange weedy kinda desert area with moderate mobs..some enlarged swamp zombie type creatures leading up to Trechor Pit.

18. PIT Trechor PIT - - - An icy mountain full of robots, copter robots, Stulkatron (big loot) and an end Pit Boss...can't remember name of.

19. Lucidor Woods - - - - A quiet wooded area leading up to Lucidor Forest with small illuminated grasses. no mobs

20. Lucidor Forest - - - - Where The Realm of Kings begins to shine ... best looking area in the game with Cyclops swinging clubs.

21. Dehsta - - - - A small settlement where Lozule Armies have invaded or made camp to capture the innocent preceeding towns of the realm.

22. PIT Slothmorn PIT - - - A gruelish meaty area with bodies impaled upon bone spikes coming up through the ground with magus skeletons/sword skeletons.

23. Corlfire Mountains - - - A dark mountainous region with many tanky mobs and very hard rock hurling bad entities with many superpowered Skicks

24. PIT Darkmoore PIT - - - A golden lit candle lit floor with small pyramids for the player to run up for safe harbor from the masses of evil mobs :BOSS is Malich 4 of them.

25. City of Corlfire - - - - This is where the KINGS make their final declaration to unite and lead the charge into Caverns Infernal..they greet the hero here.

26. Pinecliff Forest - - - A nice scenic pseudo cliff area with beige mists and minmal mobs before the very evil Caverns Infernal

27. CAVERNS INFERNAL - - - Designed to be evil, especially the last area with the boss Lozule. Built from head to toe for conclusion, its the final area ( i still haven't beat it playing legitimately after 18 years in single player... i haven't been trying either haha!!!! but i just tested it and it STILL IS FUN)

28. The Shrine of Ryn - - - The Official End to the Realm of Kings.. i wanted more for this.. but i wasn't able to get it done. EDIT )(but I am getting it done NOW 10/09/2022

Passphrases aren't gonna work either. One can simply open the map and look at the code.

Please, stop pushing a contest down the throat of this beautiful map. It needs some polishing and some more stations along the way, and companions, and it's gonna be awesome fun to play. And here's the thing: if a map is awesome fun to play, people will play it. If it's not, no amount of contests (even if it would work) will make them play it.

I assume the purpose of a contest would be to promote playing the map. And maybe buy yourself a coffee from the leftover cash.

Let's talk about cash first: There is no cash to be made with DS. I think not even a Patreon would work. The community is not big enough. Even if the contest could technically work (which it can't), finding 10 participants each week (so that 2$ are leftover for you) is too optimistic. Any work you do is for free, and so is mine.

And now about promotion. Two things:
1. As I said, if you want people to play your map, it needs to be good, and RoK has the potential, so polishing the existing content is what you should focus on.
2. If you want to do promotion on top of that, you could post the map in various communities, like on facebook, reddit, and of course here which you do already. You could post screenshots, so people get an idea of what to expect from this map. For example, the images attached to the original NexusMods page https://www.nexusmods.com/dungeonsiege1/mods/92?tab=images are uploaded by neoxaero and me, this could have been done a lot earlier by yourself. You could also put videos on youtube showcasing the map. I dunno. Maybe you have other / better ideas.

People who are very experienced in gaming are simply not my target audience.. i am trying to usher in a new younger audience here without experience in anything except tapping their phone...
so......its possible i am of very naive nature here but i feel like the veteran dungeon siege community is not my target customer.

i am very well aware of all of the current gaming graphical upgrades by leaps and bounds, there is so much to do in gaming today i feel like the younger generation will not even participate in it for much longer.

so im tossing dungeon siege up for grabs because its laid back and doesnt require an overly stressful experience to be enjoyed...its very easy

as far as the contest is concerned i think you are extremely right on the (money, no pun intended) and its a terrible idea but yes it would generate excitement because strangers could actually compete for a rather large cash prize together and i would pay it out...via paypal to their account... that IS NOT being done anywhere in gaming today so that is what makes my idea very unique...

although its a very unnecessary headache, which this part i truly agree with you Smile and i do endearingly appreciate your feedback...

you really brought up some brutal valid points, i will take that into consideration... to be totally honest with you i dont think there is any way shape or form this championship idea could or would ever gain traction given the HUGE nature of customer/gamer preference of today.. there is NO WAY i would ever be able to tear audience from the web now or ever... its a hail mary lol but i think discussing a cash prize in the context of pay out a victorious gamer is kinda grand even though the prize would be dependant on contestant entries so bar none it would never really work unless people had NOTHING better out there to play.

what i will do is .............i will probably take away the cash prize advertisement and just let it be a HAVE FUN only type of tournament contest...that will let things settle down but really nothing is going on here there is nothing to worry about Smile

not a final update but its fairly significant.. much additions.. a few fixes... too long a list i dont have time right now to go into detail...

I'm very curious how you have and will improve it!

Did you add anyone to hire or is this still a solo journey?

the hirelings havent yet appeared in this map but I stress yet...
the only reason this is true is because your beloved map maker.. (myself) hasn't figured out how to add them

I know the shopkeeper can sell self
I know there are multiple npcs available to be added to the party

but I also know that when I have tried to implement these npc characters in my map in the past they simply didnt work so I am or must be continuing to do something wrong...

I am reading up on how to add hirelings on the web and soon when I get the chance I will try to add these features because , like you bareelf, these features will add some spice to a really great experience.

But tbh what helped me most was to look at how it's done for existing companions in KoE (pick Naidi or whatever) and replicating it on a minimal test map.

Why do you post the update as a new mod, instead of updating the existing one? Please don't do this, you're spamming Nexus Mods.
And it's funny because in this forum you took the painstaking work of updating every old comment with new links, while now on Nexus Mods two versions of the same map exist separately Smile
(By the way, the post 116 on NexusMods is configured correctly as a "map", while the new 117 is configured as a "gameplay mod")

I didnt mean to do anything wrong over there on Nexus. Their entry criteria have alot of confusing proposals that are tough to narrow down so I may have to remove the 116 mod.

I will rework the thing, thanks for noticing this and letting me know.

Their names etc are the same. The second one got uploaded 4 minutes later than the first, but all downloads so far are on the first

RoK + Halloween mod Smile

By the way I opened the latest RoK in multi-player and here are my findings:

1. The start points are named like variables, they don't have required levels, they seem to be unordered, and a blank start pos is at the top:

2. Did you add all these terrain texture borders just to trigger my OCD? :P

3. These dual-lighted oak trees look awesome:

4. I didn't know we had a Great Healing scroll in the resources, interesting:

5. There's overpowered items in the starting area, and loads of it - why this nonsense

6. These tree columns look cool somehow...

7. There's a random shadow object up on this wall, might want to clean up

Srsly what about the nonsense overpowered items in the start area... more potions than I can carry, and items so valuable I can probably buy an entire store in Dromnar... and it makes the player too powerful for the Krug, they become boring...

Both files were the same thing, but youre right it is unnecessary confusion so I removed the other one.

Only one file is left and it is the correct one.

I will update that file from now on , thank you for pointing this out.

if those objects are added throughout any map, that could improve many aesthetics and situations during a maps impression on any player.. great work

These items are essential during the run to the swamp...it is merely a timesaver as I believe anyone who comes across this map will not want to spend too much time with it, they would rather move on. So in a last ditch attempt to garner replayability I am going to leave the items as is because there is no point to having any items if there are no players.

Trying to create an action focused experience rather than an item hunting one at this point... faster can be better, the player if there is one, needs a faster experience therefore minimally supercharged items to facilitate a journey through the map without swinging weapons with no outcome.

I believe any player who downloads the map and heads to Aeonoth Swamp should be able to enjoy it and clear it within one hour.
If he/she decides to carry on I was hoping to balance the reward the player receives by dropping valuable items within the pits to encourage treasure hunting in the pits of the map, not at the shops.

Hopefully overall it is a different type of feel to my map, although with so many mods being out there for download these days I highly doubt anyone would regard the map (The Realm of Kings) something that they should invest in.... its just for fun at this point and I believe it is more fun to reward the player for taking on the challenges I presented to them...
