math is art!

Templarian Arch Sorcerer's picture

My friend does not believe that math is art. I believe that this proves her wrong :
It is clearly very complex, it took my computer well over 20 minutes to generate and render it, and it stole all of my ram in the process ^_^

It is a work of art, imo, thanks to math.....

Concidering how enormous the surface area of this form is, it makes me wonder why they don't use things like that for heat sinks...

Hmm. Not many math lovers here, I guess... ^_^

I wouldn't say that nobody here is interested in math (speaking as a former math / stats. student)... it's just there isn't much to say besides "the shape certainly does look nifty". Also, the long rendering time might be due to lack of RAM (500MB isn't much these days). As for not using these kinds of shapes for heat sinks, think of production methods. Straight ribs / fingers are easy to make whereby something like this would be difficult to produce... Besides, how would you conduct the heat into such a shape with all the pointy edges? A good amount of surface area needs to be in contact with the chip being cooled. Smile
