Well, I have several books on herbalism, and yes, herbal remedies can be dangerous, as many substances can be if not taken properly. It is always best (IMO) to consult with a doctor about a physical ailment before you decide to treat it yourself by any method. However, lots of common plants can be used to supplement one's diet and promote good health if one educates oneself thoroughly and use common sense.
On a related note (sort of) check out this vintage ad. Remember how we were saying how modern ads were dumb? Looks like things weren't much better back in the day. (1957, to be exact) This is truly dumb...
