If one increases the DPI of an image without changing the size of the image say by starting with a photograph of something that is 768 x 1024 and 300 dpi it will look totally different than the same image of the same size saved at say 72 dpi
Example:
72 dpi
300 dpi
If you look closely at the eyebrows or lips you will see a difference.
