I had a friend in grade school and his family had some skunks that were pretty tame. Apparently you can remove the glands that emit that horrid smell but the animal still smells a bit funky. They were actually really sweet, but even so.

They aren't a domesticated animal, although one could argue that humans and critters like skunks, raccoons and squirrels have a history of co-existing. My sister and her boyfriend rescued some baby squirrels and one of them survived for several years. They really loved him and took care of him but he was never really a pet, not like their dogs were. I wish I could have a refuge for myself and have a sanctuary for all the ones that need care.
And you know, it makes me angry that a lot of people only want to help the "cute" animals. Ooops, I have blundered off on a tangent.
