I read lot of expectation in this topic about modding Space Siege, but the few things that I could read about it does not let me think at all it will published as "mod friendly".

I'm interested by playing the game itself. It looks like a fun game to enjoy adventuring in.
But modding wise, with the current informations released about it, I really doubt that Space Siege will have any interest.

As for the people who talks about "modability VS cheating" there is no magic answer. If you wanna play online with random people without cheaters you have to play ONLINE ONLY game, such as MMO, Guild Wars, CLOSED Battle-NET and alike. AND STILL, even these game got cheaters with some server exploits used here and then.

But ANY game that have regular multiplayer support with the game running/hosted on players PC will always have cheaters, "modable" or not.

Also of course MMO are not "modable". So you can't have both security and "modability"

The only trade-off you can get is similar to what NWN has done with its dedicated server run by players, Allowing each player to host its own mini MMO of NWN running mods or not.

Of course the implementation is far from being perfect, if true MMO already have exploits, you can guess that such dedicated server are even worst but its already a bit better. Of course the bad part is that your character is only valid on a particular server, and still you have to trust the host who could cheat at ease.

Anyway I'm just bored by the MODS vs CHEATS comment. Once again if you wanna play more cheat-free game, go play ONLINE ONLY SERVER BASED game.
But as soon as game uses the casual peer to peer multiplayer, you will meet cheaters, so complaining about mods is only just fighting with modders, not cheaters who will be there mods or not.
