I wouldn't say that nobody here is interested in math (speaking as a former math / stats. student)... it's just there isn't much to say besides "the shape certainly does look nifty". Also, the long rendering time might be due to lack of RAM (500MB isn't much these days). As for not using these kinds of shapes for heat sinks, think of production methods. Straight ribs / fingers are easy to make whereby something like this would be difficult to produce... Besides, how would you conduct the heat into such a shape with all the pointy edges? A good amount of surface area needs to be in contact with the chip being cooled.
