Help

Who we are

We are a community dedicated to the Dungeon Siege games. Our focus is on using and making new modifications for the games but we also come together to just play the games as they are, and often we just talk about everyday things.

What we offer

-Forums for discussing several topics, and blogs for more personal discussions about the Dungeon Siege games.
-A book section that works like a wiki for sharing knowledge about how to get the most out of Dungeon Siege and how to mod it.
-A download section that hosts mods that add to your gaming experience.

All of this can be viewed and enjoyed as a guest but registering will allow you to run your own blog, add to the book section, manage your own projects and post without your posts having to be approved first. You will also be able to subscribe to topics and have access to the private messege system. A word about the use of blogs: We want them to be primarily used for Dungeon Siege related topics, but you can blog about personal matters as well.

We are closely affiliated with the IRC channel #siegetheday on gamesurge.net. Go there to chat or to ask for help with Dungeon Siege. Here is information on how to.

Section explanation

This site is divided into the following mainsections, they can be found in the top-right menu:

Forums: This is the most important section where discussions about the games or even non-DS discussions are held. It is divided into categories, forums, according to topics. Post here if you need help or want to discuss something.

Blogs: This section is for the latest personal blog entries. Blogs are mainly used for information that has to do more with the posters personal experiences with gaming or modding.

Polls: This is where polls are to be found.

Tutorials: This section is comprised by a number of books containing information on how to mod the game and improve the gaming experience. All members can add new information to an appropriate book or chapter, or edit the already existing information. Backups are kept of the old pages.

Downloads: Some quality mods, tools and other contributions can be found here.

Navigation

You will find the above mentioned and other features in the links on the top-right part of the site. On the left-most column of this site you will find two menus called "(Your name)" and "Site". Those are also used for navigation. The first one is for reaching information that is related to your account and the second one is for reaching the non-major site sections, and for keeping track of or creating new content. "recent posts" is your way of keeping track of the information flow on the site. It will give you a posting history so you can see what others have posted. Topics containing unread posts will be marked "new". The right column that appears on the frontpage is for showing the latest content and most recent members.

Posting and formating text

If you hit "create content" in the "Site" menu it will expand and you will see what type content you are allowed to create. Hitting one of the new options will take you to a page for creating that type of content. You can go here for information on how to format your content. You can use both html and BBcode. Don't forget to read the rules before posting.

There are some user permissions to be aware of. Non-registered members can comment in the forums, but their posts will have to be approved first. Registered members can posts without having to wait for approval, and upload mods and tools. Registered members can also ask for access to a personal blog, and the ability to edit and create pages in our tutorial section. The section is a collection of books that work like a wiki, and there you can help collect knowledge about Dungeon Siege. Additional permissions can be asked for in Apply for Book and Blog permissions.

Download categories

Mods are extensions for your game that will add new features, besides being organized in game categories there are also subcategories:

  • maps & siegelets - maps and siegelets.
  • balancers & cheats - mods that try to balance the game or try to alter the game's difficulty.
  • add-ons - mods that add content like items, pets and so on to the game.
  • gui - mods that alter the games interface.
  • misc - mods that don't fit into any of the other categories.

Donations are resources made by others that everyone can use in their mod projects, and the categories are:

  • unfinished projects - unfinished projects that the author is unable to complete but wants someone else to pick up.
  • add-ons - donated resources like items, monsters, spells and so on that can be used on a map as they are.
  • artwork & models - donated resources like new textures, models, composed music and so on.
  • misc - contributed resources that don't fit in any of the other categories.

Tools are programs that are useful for modding. They are divided into what games they work for.

Uploading mods, code snippets, etc

If you want your work hosted, e.g a mod or nodeset, you should create a "Mod" for it in the "Create content" menu, choosing the proper category. Just follow the instructions and don't forget to select the category for the game!

If it is something you want others to finish or use in their mods then you should use the "Donations" category. Donations that others can use in their mods are appreciated, even if unfinished. If you wish to share a code snippet then you should add it to the "coding" book, found in the tutorials section, under "code snippets". But because of spambots you have to ask for permission first in Apply for Book and Blog permissions.

Useful tools can be uploaded by choosing the "Tools" section.

(see Download categories above)

Posting a tutorial

So you want to post a tutorial on this site? Well that's awesome, and it is really easy as well. As stated above, this site uses something called books, that serve as categories, that can be edited by members - like a wiki. But because of spambots you have to ask for permission first in Apply for Book and Blog permissions. The easy way to do this is to go to the "tutorial" section, navigate to the proper book and post a child page in the proper place. Normally a tutorial is put on a page, but you can also create a child page to link a series of tutorials together - like a chapter sort of. Each edit will create a new revision of the edited page so contact one of the staff members if you need us to restore any old information.
