Hmmm. Does it have an SP campaign or is it PvP / PvBot skirmishes only? Even when playing an FPS I like a story mixed with the gameplay. I find playing for kill counts / CTF / ... gets old too quickly.
there's both single and multi-player campaigns on offer..
- one or two of the gameplay styles look very promising, eg, Warfare mode..
you get to use hover-boards, which is fun once you learn how to fly them properly..
and I guess there may be more than a mod or two in the wings, as with previous versions..
..don't know yet if there will be a separate game of Unreal to follow, as there was with UT2004
- the graphics engine certainly looks capable enough..
It would need a much better storyline than the last effort, though
which looked OK, but was very linear and over far too quickly for my liking..
- for simple straightforward, non-stop, shoot-em-up action, UT3 is a blast
..especially since the recently issued patch, which really sparks some life into the gfx!
My primary desktop is much older (P4 1.7, 512MB, Radeon 9600...) :P , but I have a newer laptop that works just fine for me right now (Core2Duo 2GHz, 2GB, ATI x1300...). For my next desktop machine I'll be seriously considering piecing one together instead of buying a Dell... but that decision is probably a year off anyways. I can't justify the expense right now.
Hmm. Must I say something on topic? I think I'll go and take a look at the UT3 reviews to see what the scoop is. If I didn't already own HL2 I'd say my next FPS purchase would be the Orange Box... but as is I don't think Ep1, Ep2 + Portal is worth the current cost.

I sure like the UT games but with my current rig it would be pointless.
you can tweak the options quite a bit in UT3
but it's resource-hungry, I agree
I certainly can tell it's capable of a lot more..
my trusty rig's just over 3 years old now..
I've upgraded to the max over that time..
- currently:
32-bit XPHome SP3, via..
DualCore P4 3GHz
with 2x1024G Corsair RAM on a Foxconn 661FXME mobo
ATI Radeon HD3850(512)AGP gfx
Creative SB Audigy4 sound
1x160G + 1x40G HDD (ATA)
SyncMaster 932mw monitor at 1440x900 res
- with lots of tuning and tweaking, it copes with most things (just!)
- next upgrade will be a complete new system
- a major leap forward, I hope..
what are you using at the mo' Sol?
My system is old...
Ubuntu 8.04.1 (sometimes I'll use winXP SP2)
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+
1518 MB DDR2 Ram
GeForce 7600 GS (agp)
Monitor is an old AOC CRT.
But I have a nice Wii with balance board that I can play with.
Anyway. I'm hoping I can get a new rig soon once I'm done with a move and some travels.
I would like to get the linux version of UT3 if I can.
