'Super' Windows XP Desktop Search

On my old PC i recently had to install Windows XP again (*grrr*)... I don't know how i managed this on my old installation, but now the Windows XP desktop search doesn't browse files where the file type is unknown. However, assumed you will suffer the same problem once, the following registry entry should help to search the files in DS2 resource tanks: REGEDIT4 ; information/source: ; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309173 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gas\PersistentHandler] @="{5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.flick\PersistentHandler] @="{5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.skrit\PersistentHandler] @="{5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nnk\PersistentHandler] @="{5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"Open a text editor and save this in a *.reg file and click on it. Maybe a Windows restart is needed to affect. I'm not sure if Windows Vista and Windows 7 suffer the same idotic behaviour. Windows 2000 does not. Also you don't need this work-around on Windows XP if the Indexing Service is activated and ordered to register unknown files too. forums: |
