EAX

I have never been able to get EAX working right - it will sound okay for a while, but eventually the sound gets very choppy and starts to "reverb" if that makes sense. This is most noticeable when there are a lot of sounds playing at the same time, or within a very short period of time. forums: |

EAX is a soundcard thing so you need the latest drivers for that. What soundcard do you have and does it really support EAX? Maybe you have a soundcard and a built in soundcard which might cause a conflict? Just some ideas.
You might have a codec problem... this can happen when an application's codec seeks primacy on your system
Are you using Media Player 10 - if not download it from Microsoft - it has the correct codecs for sound..
..or you could try downloading a codec pack - you can find various packages via Google..
Sorry - I said video...should say "sound card" is Turtle Beach with latest drivers.
I did a little research and it appears that DS was developed using Creative sound cards...but the Turtle Beach claims that it's EAX compatable.
Thanks for the tip, although I'm not understanding what codecs would have to do with it. Why should media player 10 (which I have) affect Dungeon Siege?
I don't think it does. I don't think that codec was released when DS was released. I don't have time to check if this is helpful to you, but there is something about EAX in there. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321406/en-us
What model Turtle Beach sound card do you have? Is it a Santa Cruz, Catalina, or Riviera.
If it is a Riviera I would not count on it working with any game.
The Catalina has problems with DS2 however I have never seen a problem with a Catalina and DS1. The Santa Cruz will work just fine with both DS1 and DS2, however you must have:
A. The latest drivers
B. Directx 9.0c or newer. for some reason the Santa Cruz and Catalina drivers will not work with anything older and they do not do a proper install.
I would suggest the following.
Uninstall the Turtle Beach sound card from the system (software only not card). Then download DirectX 9.0c from Microsoft site. Reinstall the Turtle Beach Software but do not let it update DirectX. Run the DirectX Diagnostic and verify that it does not report any errors. If it reports errors with video or sound let us know about it. You can zip the contents of the diagnostic and PM me with them. If it does not report errors and the game still does not work correctly with EAX enabled let us know that as well.
Santa Cruz with .4193 WDM driver and Directx 9.0c is what I have.
I already tried removing/reinstalling the drivers at one point. This was after I had upgraded to Directx 9.0c (I got that shortly after it was released, a while back.)
Dxdiag does not report any errors.
This is very odd because I have a friend running the exact same sound card driver set and it works with EAX enabled and disabled. The only real possibility that I can see is that there is a defect in the sound card itself or the motherboard has a built in sound chip that is causing problems.
Verify in the system bios that there are no sound card options enabled, if the motherboard has a sound chip. If it has no sound chip or it is turned off in the BIOS I am as lost as you are.
You really have two things you can do if the above does not fix it -- try another sound card or run the game with EAX off.
Could it be that it isn't properly inserted?
I'll check the BIOS (and also ensure it's properly re-seated) and let you know.
It's good to know that somebody else is at least using this card...that makes me a little more optimistic. I was also considering just getting a low-end Creative sound card since that's what GPG appears to have been using when they developed DS.
Does your EAX works in other games?
I get a lot of treble hiss if I leave the line-in open on the recording console..
- same goes for the mic source, too..
- download latest WDM_A381 drivers and install them..
