DS 1.11 on Windows 8?

Hey guys, been a long time huh? I've recently wanted to get back into some wholesome DS1 fun, but it looks like my current OS is getting the better of me. I currently am running Windows 8.1 64-bit, and after installing DS1 with disk AND trying the Steam version that I also own, I can get the game to start with no issue. However, upon loading a map, I am met with an ugly looking mess of the textures. EDIT: Seems like I can't attach images? Keeps failing to post/update. Regardless, this is *not* screen flickering that is a common bug in Windows 7 - this is the textures teleporting and flashing all over the screen. The stuff of nightmares and seizure-inducing.

I've already set the graphics card to my current correct graphics card, and set it up properly in system_details.gas. Additionally, I'm running the game in compatibility mode Windows XP, Service Pack 3. No matter what variables I've tried tweaking so far, I can't seem to get this texture mess fixed.

Has anyone else had this problem? Furthermore is there a known solution? A few hours of googling prior to this haven't led to anything fruitful. It seems not a great deal of people play DS1 and DS2 on Windows 8. Cheers!

My grandfather has Windows 8 64-bit and I installed Dungeon Siege 1 on it, it runs fine, though mine was the LOA expansion pack. You really don't need to have compatibility mode on when you run it, though you should run DSVideoConfig.exe in administrator mode then choose your graphics card, but not any that say TnL. As far as the texture problem goes, I haven't experienced that before, but I've always played using the expansion pack. Try installing the patch for the regular Dungeon Siege http://www.fileplanet.com/110187/110000/fileinfo/Dungeon-Siege-v1.1---v1.11.1462-Patch That may help, though I can't say that it could work with the Steam version. I've heard only bad things about the Steam version, I wouldn't be surprised if the issue came from there. You could try a No-CD/Fixed EXE as well, I use one because I lost my play disc lol.. Anyway, I hope this info helps

Yeah, it's weird. Seems like it runs with minimal effort for some machines, others it refuses to. @DrakeIsGod, what is your video card? I'm running an Intel, which I believe to be the cause.

And in my time of testing, I tried on DS 1.11/LOA, Steam/CD, cracked/original executables, and set up my video card in DSVideoConfig. I'm thinking my video card is simply too powerful for the game, or in some way incompatible.

Ended up reinstalling on my work Windows 7 Laptop, and it ran fine after setting it up with Windows XP SP 3 Compatibility + a Cracked executable. I guess it will remain a mystery as to the issues on Windows 8.1.

Well my grandfather is running an Intel HD graphics card with Windows 8.1. He's running it as an administrator but he's not running any compatibility mode, have you tried running it without compatibility mode? Also try running it as an administrator, it may help. I use a retail/CD version on all of the computers and I use all of the same settings with a fixed executable. I've never had any problems with the textures before honestly. Have you installed DirectX? Also updating your video card driver can help.
