Controller

Does the Dungeon Siege 2 work with a controller? Since I'm tired of clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking.

I reread the Dungeon Siege II manual and it only makes reference to a mouse for the PC version of the game. Next I searched the web for a mod, fix or patch that would allow Dungeon Siege II to function with a game controller. I could not find any. Any reference to using a game controller with Dungeon Siege 2 took me to sites for Dungeon Siege III or games playable on the xbox.
You can reduce the number of clicks to move your party by doing some of the following things. Once you have started a new game or with a current saved game open the options menu. Click to open the game sub menu and set it like this.

Then set rampage mode

Always look at the radar map (round screen on lower right) visualize what is there red dots monsters, green dots neutral characters and other icons like the shop icons. Then on the regular game screen move the pointer in the direction you wish to travel as far from your party and click once. They will automatically attack monsters on the way to where you are going. If you pass something of interest you can always return to it. once you reach your destination. I have crossed the entire Lang swamp in fewer than a dozen clicks. It just takes a little thought and planning.

Do you think DS3 is good? Or atleast as good as the previous 2?

I purchased DS3 played it for 30 minutes uninstalled it and returned it to the store. The game was very liner only one path you have to complete a quest prior to moving on, you must pick a character that is already created. It reminded me of games that came out when Windows 3.1 and windows 95 where the rage. I just did not like it. DS2 is by far the better game.

There is actually a forum post sometime back devoted to why people hate DS3

I actually don't like DS3 either but it works with a controller so I have to play it Laughing out loud

I usually just lurk on this website, but this really caught my attention.

DS3 works good with a controller because it was designed with consoles in mind. Actually, it was made primarily for console. It's one of those franchises that suffered from this console priority syndrome. I wish DS3 had the same controls like it's predecessors and games like Torchlight and Diablo but sadly it does not. Thank god for this website providing great content which sated my hunger for a sequel.

I do like that it's more solo-focused and you can actually dodge role and stuff.

Here are some things why I refunded my game after 1 hour of struggling. (all console related)

  • A lot of the buttons aren't clickable, you need to press a key like on console.

  • The interface is really big because you sit further away from the screen.

  • Despite a big interface, most of the text/content doesn't fit (large fonts) so you have so press next every time.

  • Camera is made for those little joysticks on the console controllers, not for mouse & keyboard.

  • Saving the game on checkpoints? Is this 1999?

  • No real mod support.

  • etc.

All in all, I'd give it the same rating as the movie. (What movie right?)

I made a long and detailed few posts ranting on all the shortcomings of DS3 and why, compared to the others, it's nothing but the incest-born 'mentally challenged' ugly cousin of the other DS games.
I was going to write more, but I calmed down and figured no one wanted to keep reading my not-so-tasteful swearing that had to be edited out anyway. xD

Have a read, if you want a bit of insight as to why Dungeon Siege 3 sucks, in sort of an 'Angry Joe' fashion. (Angry Joe is a great reviewer if you didn't know, popular for.. well, his name says it all.)

My biggest initial turn-off to the game is the lack of character creation and that's almost unacceptable in an RPG for me, in most cases. Sometimes it works out, because you actually give at least a (Your choice of word here) about the character. The four from DS3 are all pretty forgettable in my opinion, and as such, you should be able to create your own. Otherwise no care is given about such lifeless characters that you can hardly project yourself into.

I did like the system for dialogue. Reminiscent of other games with dialogue trees/wheels, which is something DS2 lacked in but never claimed to be good at in the first place, so.

Anyway, I'm not gonna start ranting more. Just know that DS3 can only be considered worth playing if you're bored enough of the other games, that is unless you've played the other DS's, then you'll realize it's not even worth that. Although it is totally my opinion, so.. just like I hate Fable 3 and it's a guilty pleasure of mine. DS3 might be the same to some. xD

Au revoir!
