Tragic Memories

Post the most tragic thing to happen to you or a loved one that you can still remember.
Only post if you feel comfortable with it being open to public view.

Last summer, my Best Friend Jeremy was with his 'rents in their new Jeep Liberty on their way from Colorado to California for his Mom's aunt's funeral...
She was driving and a gust of wind pushed the car into the left lane. She overcorrected, the car flipped and rolled six times.. She was killed instantly. He called me as soon as he got to the Hospital. He started crying saying he had seen his Mother's brains splattered on the highway... I was destroyed. I have known Jeremy since Kindergarten. He was adopted at birth, so hit 'rents are pretty old by comparison to the age ratio's of other family's. Shirley had always been kind, caring and never got angry or raised her voice to ANYBODY. His Pops got remarried in around November to a nice woman he met on an online dating service. She spends the school years here in Round Rock. They all go up to her ranch in Wisconsin for the summers, which really sucks because that it usually when I get to see him the most.

Let me tell you a little bit of history between us.

Jeremy was born a crack-baby. He tells people this openly, so I know it won't upset him.
His Birth Mother even tried to drown him a few times... I always went to his house after school. But he had many problems and if I angered him in any way he would go into a frickin' rage and try to literally kill me. I put up with it for over a year. Until he destroyed alot of the toys I had brought over that day. We didn't talk or even see each other until I had reached eighth-grade, he was in seventh-grade, I think he had gotten held back... Anyway, We met while both walking home from school. He was kind of in the Punk phase whih I had just grown out of, hehe.
He had just goten braces and a new crucifix necklace.
This kid Travis Baker rode up behind Jeremy after he had walked far ahead of me and attacked him.
I was about a half mile away from him when he got jumped.
I started running down the hill screaming "Get the **** away from him! Get the **** away from him!"
Travis saw me coming, hopped on his bike and took off. When I got to Jeremy, his braces had torn up his cheeks from being punched so hard, and his new crucifix had been ripped off his neck.
It looked like he would have been in ungodly pain but he didn't shed a tear.
We've been best buds ever since.

His Mom died summer of his Eighth-grade year. He's now going into Ninth-grade, me to Tenth.

I've always tried to be there for him, through everything; I'd kill for him, he's like a brother to me. But he's never been the same since his Mother's death... Hell niether of us have...

Some things should remain private. Especially very tragic memories, unless you have a certain need to tell them.

Ok, Lord Claw, I see that you are relaying an honest story about a friend who means a lot to you. That is one thing, but I don't like the "feel" of this thread. Things can get very off track in with this sort of topic. I am not trying to be mean to you for starting this thread (it is not against forum rules as far as I can tell)

Have you ever thought of starting a blog? There are many around, for free. To me, this topic is more suited to a blog.

I think this type of thread can get out of hand very very quickly.

I wouldl l ike to make it very clear that I consider these sorts of remarks to be in bad taste. Death and destruction in a GAME is one thing. We play DS here, we know there is a fair amount of mayhem. IT IS A GAME.

REAL LIFE is a different matter all together. Death and sadness are not food for jokes and people's pain is not funny.

I have lots of things that I could post about, but I will decline...what is the point? So people can "cheer" about it? Sad Sad To be laughed at? : NO THANKS!

If anyone has a problem with this, feel free to bring it up with me (or another mod) in a PM. That is the appropriate avenue. DO NOT start arguments in the threads, PLEASE.
Use the PM system. Thank you

Kathy

FYI: if any rants are started here; moderating actions will be taken.
I have not been verbally abusive to anyone, so if someone wishes to PM regarding this matter, remember that and show me the same courtesy. Thanks again.

Kathy

Good to see you treating your moderator status well, Kathy. Good form. Smile

As for the point of this topic, I don't see any reason why it should stay open. For one thing no one will have a good time reading it, nor do I believe it is necessary here. It gives those of us who have experienced such tragedy uncomfortable. I move that it is closed. Thanks.

Firstly, sorry to hear about your friend's Mom LC2.

Second, very well said Kathy, I agree on every point 100%.

Also, I'm of the opinion that tragic memories are not to be treated trivially or lightly, as is commonly the intention of theme threads, so I am going to present two options to the creator of the thread, Lord_Claw_II.
1. We can lock the thread.
2. Change the intention of the thread from a theme to one solely for the discussion of the original post's unfortunate subject matter. (I can edit the first post to snip the theme thread stuff and change the subject if this is your choice).

Anyone is still free to post a "this is my sad story, let's laugh / cry / discuss..." thread of their own, as long as the subject matter follows site rules, but serious subjects should be treated in a manner determined by the person sharing, not a "theme". If I chose to share something personal within a forum, you can bet it wouldn't be in a theme thread like this (and I believe most people will feel the same way).

Lastly, I would not want anyone to feel in any way pressured to post something in this thread... so if we don't hear from LC2 in a reasonable amount of time, then the thread will be locked.

Schadenfreude is not a trait you want to nurture, but resist.

I know what schadenfreude is, its one of my favorite words. :P

---(and unfortuanately one of my worst traits) Sad

The meaning of this thread was for people to better understand what others have gone through and see where they are comng from. I had no intention of making this some stupid ass game of poking fun at other's misfortune. That's the kind of crap that pisses me off.

If you feel that this information is not too private post it. If not, don't post at all!
I don't want comments unless they are either sympathetic or it shows how you can relate to them and/or their story. If you make a rude or inconsiderate comment on someone's story then you've got some prolems that need to be dealt with.

Sharkull, do whatever you want, its obvious this thread's purpose has been overlooked by all that have read it.

Lock it, delete it, whatever...

Sharkull's picture

The point of the thread was not overlooked, it just wouldn't work well (as evidenced by the responses...).

Locked.
