No CD drive

Does anyone know how to run Dungeon Siege on a machine with no CD drive? I'd like to be able to host a game on one of my rackserver machines that has no floppy, no CD/DVD so that I can operate more characters in MP than I have desktops. The game installs OK, dxdiag confirms that the machine has the required video support, but the game won't start using the same networked drive that I installed from. My recollection of the Windows C/C++ functions available is that a network drive is distinct from a CD drive, even when it is one. Presumably this is to prevent someone from ejecting a single folder on a drive, when only partly mapped. I'd prefer a legitimate "no cd" method as the alternatives are likely to include other "unwanted features". The intent is to run from a CD on another machine, rather than to eliminate it entirely. |

Heeey, well there are no cd cracks of ds 1 but you can't host then.
If you create a ds backup image (iso file) and then use a program to remove the cd checks then it should work.
Another option is install dsloa and create a backup image of that, loa hasn't got any cd protections and it overwrites the start function of the original dungeon siege installation.
Mount the backups with deamon tools or alcohol.
This is a legal way

I suppose a USB optical drive is out of the question?
I don't have a USB optical drive, so it would be as expensive to get one as upgrade the video on another desktop to achieve this.
I nearly bought one to do the OS installs on the server boxes, but managed that via USB flash drive instead. I'm also not certain if a USB drive looks like a CD or a hard drive to the OS. The latter would just leave me where I am now.
Won't hurt to install LoA and try that (actually I have to do that step to run Abstraction this way).

I would recommend DAEMON tools as I have found that to work pretty slick for a couple games I have used it on.

I ended up using the Alcohol 52% free edition to create an image on a machine with a CD drive, and DTs (Daemon tools) on the one without to use it. I put the CD itself in a third machine and played a three-way game successfully.
