Demigod revealed by GPG

There will be new game in town by GPG.

Chris Taylor's Gas Powered Games is best known for its RTS Supreme Commander and its action-RPG series Dungeon Siege -- so maybe it's just the natural course of evolution that the developer's newest game, Demigod, should borrow a bunch from both of those genres: It's an action/RPG/RTS hybrid, inspired partly by the popular WarCraft III mod Defense of the Ancients.

For those who've never tried DotA, it concentrates on two teams trying to destroy each others' bases; though rather than managing all the units or gathering resources as in a regular RTS, players each control a single Hero unit with different powers, leveling up by killing A.I. enemies around the map.

I really like how this sounds. It is not DS3 but it still sounds like a great game. If it is easy to mod we could maybe even create questbased stories for it. ^^ (ever the optimist)

Edit: Firebat thought I should add sources to my articles so here they are for this one. ^^

You just beat me to the punch... I was about to write a post saying the same thing. Smile

Action/RPG/RTS combo eh? Sounds like something I'd enjoy (if it's PC based).

I was feeling the vibes so I hurried up. Smile

I think I will enjoy this as well.

Looks like it is inspired by Transformers as well. Hoping Chris returns to his roots soon.

Volkan, Transformers? How do you figure?

Just that the pictures look like parts of the walls becoming animated to make the characters. Dunno. Hope I'm wrong.

I don't know. I think it would be kind of fun to have one or two possible heroes like that.
I don't see it though. I see the animated castle, but that is it. (the dude with the sledgehammer)

I understand your point there volkan... but I don't think the idea of a creature resembling a building / landscape is necessarily new to GPG (or unique to the Transformers brand). For example, from blocks of ice coming alive in DS1 to trees that pack quite a punch in DS2, as a theme for animation it's something we've seen from GPG before. In the screenie the landscape being imitated is man-made, but I think that may be just an art style (and possibly a link to game lore).

Me thinks I grumble too much. I just miss the familiar surroundings that came with DS. Smile

I can totally relate to that, Volkan. And it's not just the look and style that I love about DS. Even the history and universe is appealing to me and is a big part of why I'm still with this game. I really want all that in a fresh serving.

I really liked DS1's immersive gaming experience that went at my pace. Meticulously exploring every nook and cranny, or blazing a path of carnage: it was up to me. A large part of the fun was exploring, and the beautiful scenery made it so much more special. Very few gaming genres allow for such an experience.

RTS's are about building and strategy. Action games (including FPS's / 3PS's) are about "kill or be killed". RPG's are all about... well... role playing. I really wonder what Demigod's gaming experience is going to be like... somehow I don't think the exploration of immersive environments is on the menu.

The latest newsletter indicates that GPG is getting into "self-publishing". Since THQ announced they would release SupCom on Steam, I wonder how Demigod will be released... (i.e. if GPG likes the idea of online distribution too).

I get the impression that Chris and the guys are just waiting for the technology to catch up..

with the newly arrived multi-core systems, coupled with high-end graphics
and particularly given the gaming industry's trend towards enhanced re-issues
- eg. HL/HL2, FarCry/Crysis, etc..

..is it too much to expect a yet more vivid depiction of the original annals of Aranna..??

- just using DS1/LoA - there is so much that can yet be achieved..

If the greyscale images are actual meshes.....I like. :thumbup1:

Having seen "Tomb Raider: Anniversary" remake the original game with an updated engine, it's totally possible the great new game in a few years will be "DS1: Anniversary" - Holographic 3d Krug anyone?

...and there won't be any copy-protection on the disc.

I don't see anything saying that there won't be some sort of online activation though... (my guess is that there will be).
