Disable damage display ?

HardLess's picture

Hi,

As some know, there are some issues with "Broken World", issues like low frame rate or some freeze.

And I'm wondering if there are any ways to disable or totally remove the display of damages over the monster's heads.
I've made some research on this but it doesn't seems to be linked to the UI.
Is it an effect or something else ?

If anyone have an idea it could be nice.

Thank you.

just need to try different video settings, like vert sync and anti-aliasing.. lower settings for shadows etc. eventually one setting will be best.

It's seems that low frame rate issues on laptop are due to dual GPU.

I search a lot about this and, i just get 30 fps on broken world without shaders and everything, but i have 60 fps on Dungeon Siege 2 with every settings at high.
I think there is a problem in Broken World engine.

On my other computer, QuadCore + Nvidia 9800 GT, i get also 60 on Dungeon Siege 2 and 45 on Broken World, can't get higher. (For example i can play any new FPS game in middle settings with 60 fps (vsync enable). Sad

So i'm wondering how to get ride of some effects. Because in town without any fight I get 30 fps on my laptop but it get down to 15-20 fps in fight.
On my other computer I have 45 fps and its never get down.

So I want to try to play on my laptop without those "damage".

If you have any idea to get ride of this it could be nice.

But thanks for the advice. Smile

There are several posts about frame rate on the site. So I would recommend that you search the site for them. There are several things that might cause the problem.

1. You may wish to look at redoing the system_detail.gas because your laptop's video chip is not supported.
2. Your quad core processor could also be causing the problem. I recommend that you run the game using just a single core. I know this sounds counter intuitive but the game came out when there where only single core processors. The game engine uses very little gpu and processes most of the video using the CPU. Using a multi-core processor will actually slow the game down.
Just look around the site it has been covered over and over.

as for the damage numbers 15 27 31 etc that show on the screen, not sure maybe PhoeniX may have modded it not sure seems like there was something that turned those numbers off.

Phoenix's mod doesn't change the damage display numbers but it does change other settings to try to make Broken World less laggy.

So as you said this mod doesn't get rid of the damage display numbers.
I'll try this mod on my laptop later and I will come back with my feedback.
But this doesn't affect my desktop computer at all, still at 45 fps.

I had 8 fps before a random Windows 7 update...
Now my laptop can go to 30 fps without any explanation, and my laptop GPU is detected correctly by Broken World.
I tried to use only one core, don't seems to have any effect on the game still laggy in fight.
I researched everywhere, some people did have the same problem like blinking cursor but this problem have been fixed by a recent Windows 7 Update. No idea why...

Thank you again.

the "damage display numbers" are just 2d sprites and their presence... or removal does not affect the frame rate. whoever told you that they do?

your problem is very likely vsync, seeing as to how u mention your frame rate in multiples of 15. that is 99% symptomatic of vsync hurting the frame rate. set vsync = false in your ds2bw ini file.

I had already tried to disable vsync, I did it again to be sure about this, but it doesn't affect my framerate at all.

Nobody said me that "damage display number" affect framerate, i'm thinking about get rid of useless thing as this to get better framerate.
