Back to DS2

Got my new characters to Zaramoth's Horns today. Getting back into DS2/BW with a better graphic card. Can't believe how much better the game looks, especially the water and ice with the advanced shaders. Falling in love all over again. ^^

It is a fantastic difference.

Hmm.. Btw I see you're using xfire. Any good?

ps. I hate those Mimics... Look at them teeth! Scary. Laughing out loud

Haven't gotten to join any online gaming yet, so unsure about that feature, but it is a fantastic tool for real-time chatting with friends. Plus you can tell if friends are online, afk, or in-game at a glance. Smile

Pfff, users outside the U.S are not allowed to use xfire. What a bummer. Sad

Oh and it said I wasn't the proper age. Laughing out loud

That's strange. All my current friends are from DoA (Germany) on X-Fire. Maybe Sweden is blocked for some reason. :? And the age issue is strange as well.

The service is only for residents in the U.S according to their "Terms of Use".

Quote:
By your participation in our Service activities, you certify that you are at least 13 years of age or the required greater age for certain features and a resident of the U.S. If you are located in the European Union or elsewhere outside of the U.S. and you use this Service contrary to our policy that only U.S. residents are eligible to use the Service, you do so at your own risk and initiative, and you, not us, are responsible for compliance with any applicable local and national laws. If you are not yet 13 years old or the required greater age for certain features, or do not reside in the U.S., please discontinue using the Site immediately, or if for any reason, you do not agree with all of the terms and conditions contained in this Agreement, please discontinue using the Site immediately because by using or attempting to use the Site, you certify that you are at least 13 years of age and meet any other eligibility and residency requirements of the Service.

The age issue was because of an old cookie. It does seem like you are still allowed to use the service if you dare to so I registered anyway.

I sent an invite for friendship to sol77, hope that is you. ^^

Edit: Heheh, he will wonder who I am. I checked his profile and he's been a member for over a year and is from Spain. Should have checked before I sent the invite.

Sent another to anthelios77. Smile

middle one, second row looks really neat,

lotsa detail showing
really good coloration, too

what's the low-down on the card and settings..?

- I'm still planning on an upgrade next year

I uploaded the info to my X-Fire account this past Friday: ==>Gaming Rig<==

Not the best, but they perform well enough. Smile

wow,
- looks like you're getting excellent performance.. :woot:

- I'm not running DS2 at the moment,
- 'cos I've got 1440x900 res monitor
- the game doesn't translate too well

- unless there's a way round it, I'm side-lined for a few months..
- about mid-2009 is when I hope to upgrade..

- might go QuadCore with 2x9800GTX, haven't made my mind up yet
- as there's some new tech expected, which may affect choice..

(..are you not bothering with XP-Pro SP3..?)

I can't claim bragging rights as it is work computer. That is also why there has been no upgrade to service pack 3 yet.

Just got the video card to work correctly a couple of weeks ago, but the sound card is still not dialed in right. I can't get the sound to come through the speakers. The sound is there as I can take a video to other work computer and play back w/sound. I can't seem to find out what is causing the error yet. :?

I assume you've checked to see that the sound cable from your speakers is plugged into the correct spot on your sound card (and not the microphone port Smile ). Also, verify that you're using current drivers for your sound card. Some sound card manufacturers (like Creative) package drivers with separate programs for adjusting settings... see if anything like that is installed and play with the settings to see if that is the cause of the problems.

Can you get any sound at all (eg. Windows startup / shutdown music)? Either way, it could be a few of things. First check the "Sounds and Audio Devices" settings in the Windows Control Panel. In the Device Volume section click the Advanced button and in the resulting window activate the Options - Advanced Controls (if not already active). Some types / sources of sound may be muted / turned low. Test / adjust as required. Also in "Sounds and Audio Devices" check your speaker configuration / settings and volume (adjust as required). Lastly, run DirectX Diagnostics (Start - Run - dxdiag)... this is a set of DirectX tests that walk you through audio and video function analysis.

Note: the ability to record sound with a video has nothing to do with functioning sound hardware on your system... you just need the appropriate audio codecs to be installed properly.

Hope this helps.

- in the speaker settings, move the Sample rate conversion quality slider back to Good..
- this sometimes helps with synchronisation..

PS: has anyone got any ideas about the 1440x900res problem?
I'm using a Samsung SyncMaster 932mw via the DVI input, the coloration is beautiful
the ati HD3850AGP card has no problem normally, HL2, Oblivion and UT3 all look superb..
- is 1440x900 considered a widescreen mode?

I'm missing DS2, and waiting for a new rig is a pretty lame excuse for not playing it
I've tried using Elys' GUI start-up, which offers a neat custom res mode..
- it really doesn't look right at the moment - kinda squashed

- once you've played DS2 in all it's glory, it's a shame to compromise..

Yes.

I updated to service pack 3, and tried setting the advanced properties for sound. I still get garbled/scratchy sound coming from the speakers. :?

Hmmm... It could be hardware too (bad connection, card not seated properly, failing speakers / card...).

pardon the pun - it sounds like a codec problem..

re-installing WMP11 may help re-order the Audio codecs..

- otherwise, you can..

- go to the Hardware/Device Manager
- under "Sound, video and game controllers" you'll see "Audio Codecs" listed
- double click this and wait a minute or two, for the box to appear..
- select "Properties" and you'll see a list of codecs
- you have the option to move these up and down the table of priority
- double-click on "Windows Media Audio" - it's usually around 7th place in the list, IIRC..
- make it No1 in the list - and make sure that the "use this audio codec" radio-button is selected..

- might help.. (?)

Homer got the sound problem corrected. It was a connection error. ^^

Now I can start trimming the "cough" 90 GB worth of vids from DS1 and DS2 that were waiting for the sound before being remixed in Movie Maker.

Thanks for the patience and help guys. Smile

You mean this guy?

Wink
Glad you got things working.

Yep. That's me. Smile

There were two ports for speakers, and I guess only one was set up correctly.

Started trimming the FRAPS files a bit yesterday.

I can't get the xfire protocol to work on linux right now so haven't gotten that invite yet.
But when I've fixed my windows install I will install the official client.

NP. Hope you get it working soon. Smile

Hurray - 1440x900 res

all it needed was the Maintain Aspect Ratio setting on the gfx card..!!
oh, and Elys' wonderful GUI..

Now all you need is "surround sound" to go with the widescreen. ^^

That's awesome Blondin! Smile

you can get some amazing panoramic shots from distance
- can't wait to get to Snowbrook.. :woot:
