Hi, everyone. I recently got dungeon siege. It's a fun game, surprisingly addictive, in a good way. While no longer state-of-the-art, the graphics are rather pretty, the landscapes nicely done. I've played the first compaign and also Legends of Aranna. I am interested in obtaining more content (siegelets?) for the game and also, possibly, in making new content for the game. blogs: |

Welcome to SiegeTheDay.
:welcome:
Google can help you find the siegelets when you know the names. My recommendations would include the ones listed here (download links won't likely work... use Google to find active ones):

...and:
Legends of Utrae
DS Abstraction
Also, don't forget the Multi-Player world that comes with DS1 (Utrean Penninsula). You can play it solo by hosting a LAN game yourself. Legends of Utrea and something called myros mod allows you to play UP (with changes) as a single player map.
When it comes to modding, if you want advice, just let us know what you want to achieve. Someone will likely be able to help point you in the right direction.
thank you.
I've already found that it can be difficult to find sieglets. Most links are either broken, or point to fileplanet or filefront, which never work for me. Been hit or miss, with mostly miss.
From reading stuff, and from playing around, I get the feeling that multiplayer in DS is different from other games ... multiplayer seems to be a way of re-using a character for single player by playing in a multiplayer mode without any other players.
ya lost me here. :o sorry.
Well, I've had a few ideas but I am uncertain if they are feasible with the way things work in terms of file formats and how the game engine works. For instance, is it possible to make a simple plugin that works with an existing siegelet, say adding teleport pads or an extra side dungeon to the original EHB campaign?
With DS1 multi-player (MP) you can import a single player hero, and go from there. In MP play you don't have a party... you're on your own (unless you use summons). The saves work differently too... the world state isn't saved, only your character and his / her inventory is preserved.
In addition to being able to play on the Ehb map, there is a HUGE MP only map.
"UP" is the huge MP map Utraen Penninsula. Legends of Utrae is a siegelet that converts the "UP" multi-player map into a single player map (you can have a party, save the world state...). Myros mod is another way to play "UP" using the single player features... but it is more work to get it running (do-it-yourself stuff involved).
It is possible to modify / add map sections for existing maps (official or not). Adding teleport pads to Ehb is a bit advanced, but should be possible.
You should be able to locate Xaa's Mageworld and Lands of Hyperborea via google or Siegenetwork. They're highly recommended, even though I didn't contribute much to them.
That's one option, but you can also host a game and let others join you. There was a central server on-line option, but that was shut down a while back. I have multiple machines that can play DS, so I sometimes play MP on my home LAN.
What Sharkull means is that the Utraean Pensinsula map - the built in MP one - has been re-used as the basis of two Single-player mods using different mobs etc. on the same terrain.
In principle the .dsmap tank contains the landscape, and the .dsres tank contains the actors and scripts, although that's more a convention than strict reality. These two mods essentially replace the latter only.
Just to confuse you, it's quite common to put everything in just one .dsres archive and call it a map whenever it shows up in the map selection menu. Abstraction is like that.
You can also find a lot of much simpler mods that just add a weapon or dungeon into the regular map. Follow the Siegecore link on the left for a bunch of those.
There are tutorials here and on my site (Link in my sig) that will give you an idea what you can do, what's easy, what's hard, and what's already been done.
hiya, blockhead :woot:
- yes, you're right - DS1 is a brilliant little game!!
..it has a heart of gold and an innocent spirit that's sadly lacking in some newer games
- the magic of the tale shines throughout the whole game - gives it real atmosphere..
- as Ghastly said, you should try Xaa's brilliant make-overs
- Mageworld and Lands Of Hyperborea are both extra-ordinary feats of story-telling and game design..
