tank viewer and windows 7

I can get tank viewer (the one for DS1) to work just fine. however tank viewer 2 even the one that comes as part of the ds2 tool kit will not run. The original tank viewer can open dsres files just fine but gets an unknown header on ds2res files. If I had a program that would allow me to edit DLL files I am sure I could hack the orignal tank viewer to work cuz someone did it a long time ago. blogs: |

Tank viewer/creator not working and the lack of a good DDS viewer/converter is what has kept me from my modding.
The following to link is for tank creator 2 works for iryan and myself using windows 7 however I needed to run it as administrator to get it to function.

I could not get tank viewer 2 to work, however I was able to get tank extractor to work once I installed java for windows 7
tank extractor is in the download area here http://www.siegetheday.org/?q=node/1348
Stupid Windows 7 does not have any idea what to do with Direct Draw Images. I have located several programs for windows 7 that allow you to view and convert DDS files into other formats but none that would allow me to convert a bmp, psd, Jpg into a DDS Image in the correct format for using it in a dungeon siege 2 mod.
I wonder what other people are using to do this? since there are several people who are still modding and using win 7 and win 8
I can use photshop image with alpha channel and not convert to DDS.
why invent an image format that did not exist prior to windows xp and dump it before windows 7 (I did no include vista because that was not really an OS)
Windows 7 I had no problems with any tools/programs except DDS.
Windows 8 is another matter entirely though.
There is a dds plugin for photoshop.

You could extract the tank file with the Siege Editor 2. The hacked DS1 Tank Viewer for DS2 works I think. Tank extractor should work. If you have photoshop, there is a plugin to convert it that I mentioned. There's also one for gimp. The other tool I used was The Compressonator

Let me know if these work for you.
I had the same problem with my tank viewer 2. In order to use the tank viewer 1, with ds2 files, I need to convert every ds2res files in dsres with the tip and tool made by KillerGremal.
This one
See you, glad if it helps
Perhaps this TankView 2 (389kb, ReadMe) will work on (your) Windows 7?
It's simply a hex-edited TankViewer 1, but there are other inofficial TankViewers for DS2 too on the web, unsure however what they are based on.
It would be interesting to know if there is a TankViewer made of the updated source-code, and not just a modified exe.
Thank you KillerGremal == This version of Tank Viewer 2 works great with Windows 7! Could someone verify if it works with windows 8 and windows 8.1 If it works I will post a link in the tools download section
Works for 8.1, thank you KillerGremal.
Maybe we can get a 8.1 version for TankCreator2 and SE2 someday.
Thank you,
I won't have to hexedit every single ds2res anymore :).
The unofficial version of Tank Viewer 2 that works with Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 can now be found in the Download Section of Siege the Day in the section Dungeon Siege 2 tools.
