Based on what steam users have said...

There is more than just the version number mismatch. I am starting to believe that there is content missing from the Steam versions of both DS1 and DS2. Why do I think this you ask? Because of missing objects, objects that float above where they should be. Missing or problematic ambient characters and shopkeepers, innkeepers. If a person has both the steam version of DS1 and DS2 they appear to report more of these issues than do people with just one of the steam versions. Now I know that there is content in retail versions of all the various Dungeon Siege editions that exist, but are not active in the final release of the games. I also know that some of these assets are used in the DS1_Legendary_Mod. What if the people at Steam removed the unused assets from their versions to provide a faster download? Thank you in advance blogs: |

Stange that such a simple idea would work. I copied the DSLoA Folder from my Retail install of DS1/DSLoA to the same location in the DS1 Steam Folder. Then I copied the DSLoA.exe to the root directory of the steam DS1 install. Verified that the file was pointing to the Steam install which it was. Then verified that the DSLoA.exe in my retail install was still pointing at the retail version, which it was. It now appears I have a working DSLoA playable from the steam install. I will have to play a game to see what happens. May have to change the paths for the saved games and screen shots so they do not overlap the DS1 retail install.
You just beat me, I tested it with the same success.
I also tested it by disabling the registry setting for Dungeon Siege in case it was using that to "find" the original game but no, it still works. So I believe DSLOA.exe acts like a shortcut using a custom folder. If there's any extra hard-coded functions used for DSLOA, they must be included in the exe.
DSLOA already uses its own folder for saves, settings and screenshots so changing the path shouldn't be necessary as long as the DSLOA in the steam folder has the same mods as the retail version unless you intend playing both versions with different mods?
Still DSLOA is still sold at retail in such places as Amazon and it includes the original dungeon siege.
This link is dead and i seem to be having trouble getting succubus to run BW. Launches and runs fine from steam with the BW fix/legendary.
