Neither of the above. We are individuals living in a social setting (society...), so we only appear to be "social beings" because of the necessity of such behaviour in this environment. Granted, our method of procreation involves families (babies would not survive alone...), which in themselves are mini-societies, so in that sense we do have a necessary social aspect to our existance.

I don't think I need to comment on the "violent" "idiot" option too much... some people are, but most aren't.
