A Day in my life

The weather was real nice today so I rode a bike trail that I had never been on before and just kept going south until I looked at the mileage and it said 25 miles. Then I noticed it was starting to get dark, so I turned east and found a street that looked somewhat like one I had seen before and rode until I found a street I knew and turned north, buy the time I got home I had traveled 60 miles. So I took a bath, read my emails, checked on IRC to see who was awake and most where asleep so I wrote in my cycling blog and on the blog here. Now I think now I will watch a little TV since it is still only 9:30 in the evening. Oh yes maybe I should have dinner too.

I learned a long time ago that if you're going to ride your bike at random, you'll do best by picking the uphill direction early on, so they pay you back at the end of the trip when you need it.

It helps if you live at the beach.

I do not mind hills nor does my mountain bike where ever they show up on a ride, it is the wind that always tends to blow in the direction opposite of which I am going.

I don't understand how it works, but if I ride a circular route, the wind is in my face the whole way round.

I thought you were small and streamlined, so it would have less effect. My beard seems to add a ton of drag - I think that's why serious cyclists shave off all their exposed hair.

P.S. Hills don't change direction, the wind always does when you count on it.

I have noticed that even on days when there is no wind the wind always blows in my face. Then I thought oh it must be because I am going forward and hitting the air which makes it seem like a 15 to 20 mph wind.
that is the speed I normally get to on the flat ground. I looked up if shaving off all exposed body hair would actually improve speed. The study said that the drag caused by hair really did not affect cyclists and only swimmers. I just do it cuz I am a girl. To your other point ghastley small and streamlined though I am I still find the wind is a problem, like when it comes from the side I sometimes do not have enough mass to keep me from going sideways.

/blames LR for the meany wind.

Opposite Wind is the worst thing for a solo biker. :'(

If you have problem with strong sideway wind, let your body "fall" against the wind (like when you fall on a side to turn around without using the handlebar for direction).

It can be uncomfortable at first and not feel natural, especially if the wind force is varying a lot because you have to keep adjusting "how much you fall" to compensate.

Just know your equipped wheel/current ground adherence limit, because falling on the side against the wind, might "fly you up" and even 1mm off ground is enough to go boom in certain condition Tongue
