Summer fun, huh?

Hey folks:

I hope you've all been well and enjoying summer. Just know that I will be EXTREMELY jealous of you, because I have not. I've been hospitalized and in rehab since the first week of July for a spiffy fun illness called "septic arthritis" and let me tell you, I've been feeling very very spiffy...er, if one defines "spiffy" as feeling like an army of rabid squirrels are devouring your joints in addition to the fevers, secondary infections and nausea.

But, after two surgeries (one was on my birthday! Lucky me!) :P and a multitude of other crap I have finally gotten to come home. I have to continue to have intravenous antibiotics three times a day but thankfully I am able to continue treatment at home, with the help of visiting nurses and therapists.

So, that's been my summer. I suspect this blog entry will seem a bit confused, but hey, I'm doped to the gills on pain meds. Woot! Insane

Oh yeah, here's a link about septic arthritis.

Well I guess you would rather been stuck under Boston after all. The Elf hunts :orc: the evil rabid squirrels who have been attacking Kathy's Joints. Bad Bad Squirrels Dwarf shame upon you. Kathy stay out of the Boston Underground because that is where I tossed the rabid squirrels.

:goofy: Insane Elf

P.S. Your friends and mine over at the forge all wish you well and the Bat says get well soon.

Sounds like a LOAD of fun. Sad

Hope you are feeling much better and wishing continued health.

@kathycf: This doesn't sound good, but I hope you will feel better soon!

It reminds me anyhow the blood poisoning I had some years ago.
Due to a rather simple injury/abrasion on my left foot (however it never did mend well) my knee and hip begun to hurt pretty much - unfortunately I didn't realize the context and that this could be a toxemia.
It took some time until I went to the doctor. It took 6 other weeks until I was able to walk normally... Sad

Since then however I'm buying disinfectants by the litre and not as vials. :P

Wow kathy.. crap... I sure hope those bacteria get knocked into oblivion and that you mend quickly.
Did the doctors catch it in time?

Best wishes in your recovery!!!

Yes I hope you have a quick recovery as well. I've had relatives with severe arthritis and my sister contracted and eventually died from lupus, so I've seen the pain these sorts of conditions has on others.

Hey all~

Thanks very much for the kind words and well wishes. Smile
I feel better already knowing Lili Elf will be keeping and eye on those rabid squirrels. Nasty wee beasties... *shudders*

That sounds very much like what happened with me. The doctors think bacteria was able to get in my system because I had an extensive breakout of eczema, which caused a lot of broken skin. I've never had eczema or arthritis before that, so everything about this experience just feels really strange.

I didn't get help for several days until the swelling and pain in my right ankle made it impossible to walk. Some of the other joints were affected as well, but the ankle was by far the worse and required two surgeries. Ugh. I can walk with the aid of a walker, which is fine, but a little embarrasing. It seems that all my "old people waving their walkers around" jokes have returned to bite me on the butt... :P
