Extreme Makeover: Kingdom of Ehb edition

I don't know why some of the scraggy faces in Dungeon Siege bother me so much, it doesn't affect game play in the least, and really, how often are you zoomed in to get a good look at the characters? I guess it was one of those little things that kept picking at me. So, gradually I compiled some faces over the last months (and years) and here they are. Remember, I am not an artist! Shock

Old faces on the left. And... here we go:

Sikra:

Lord Bolinger:

Merik:

Naidi:

Phaedriel:

Gyorn, Zed and Andiemus - Old on top, new on bottom:

Ulora:

I made a few new playable faces for farmgirl:
This one is okay, I guess-

A wee bit scary around the eyes-

A combination of two of the original faces, sort of cute-

Well, I can just keep working on this one... :? Eeek

I didn't get to everybody and some faces just wouldn't come out right. Kroduk isn't supposed to look like the love child of John Travolta, Billy Idol and Jerry Seinfeld, right? Meh, back to the drawing board for him. The women's faces were much easier for me to do. The male models seem a bit more "blocky" or something and their silly upper and lower arms never match.

I always thought that the faces of the characters where just a bit on the poorly drawn side as if the programmers had never seen a real person, be they elf, human, or whatever. That is why I play using Cat Mansion Characters most of the time. I think you did a very nice job on the girls Kathy, the guy on the other hand are for some reason much harder, I think because most of them have never seen a razor or a comb.
You have made a good start Smile

Cheer Elf Cheer

I think one thing re: scraggy faces was that in the un-modded game, the camera angle was fixed in one position and didn't allow much of a view of the character's faces. Maybe the game designers thought they could get away with not handing out combs and razors. hehe. ^^

Still, it made me wonder why so, so many of the male faces were so weathered and rough looking. Jeez. Not that some of the female skins weren't rough too...*shudders*

For some of the characters, I wanted to stay with kind of the original "theme", so to speak. For example, Gyorn still looks a bit older and rough, but not as much as he did before. Some of the faces I just didn't like at all (Sikra, Andiemus and Phaedriel for starters) and decided to make or edit new faces for them.

I decided to make Merik a young guy who works out. By snooping around the expansion files I found a male body skin I could use for him in the evil c monsters folder (the doppelganger skin).

Check out that six pack, lol.

But I do agree, the males could definitely use some more work. I'm not that enthused about my results for Lord Bolinger and Zed. Andiemus came out ... okay.

Here is another version of Sikra I had:

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement! Laughing out loud

Good job Kathy. Don't fool yourself, you are a good artist. Smile

Thank you, PhoeniX . Smile
It means a lot for me to get feedback.

So, I made another playable farmgirl face. I was inspired by the creator of the Warcraft mod (Zigg) and his Night elf skin. I decided to forgo the pointy ears as the ears he made were a part of the hair and...eh, too much trouble for me.

I like the skin Zigg made and use it, but I also like making faces...
(I'm sticking my tongue out right now :P ...erm, Bad joke Kathy. Bad Kathy!]
I mean to say I like drawing faces and I like variety. *grin*

An actual Blizzard Night Elf (jackelope ears!):

My attempt, minus those ginormous ears that Blizzard does :

Your new faces for the characters are just great. So good in fact that I might even be able to play the game without using the Cat Mansion Girls. You are an excellent artist, I wish my work was that good.

@kathycf: Great work! Smile
Try once to set the head of a dryad or elf from DS2 for inventory:custom_head (or press '7' in the AnimViewer when the DS1 body is already loaded). Like this you would get some pointy ears, although not as extended as in WoW probably.

It may be however that you have to re-arrange the head/skin texture for the DS2 mesh... Puzzled

As you folks know, sometimes it can be so much fun to mod that actually playing the game takes a back seat. My LoU group is still hanging out in Fallraen, probably in the tavern causing a ruckus. So I scolded myself to stop modding and get back to work...er, play.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I think I like the blue face w/ tattoos better, although this face isn't bad. She just looks a little sunburned. But, she has her own custom underwear skin (as do all the other playable character girls-I always thought it was weird in original Dungeon Siege to wear clothes under your clothes). So, there's that. hehe

Oh, and I wanted to add that I did not draw the tatoos for either Dungeon Siege "Night Elf" face freehand, but rather adapted Blizz's textures to fit what I could do. I certainly wish I was a better artist.

I appreciate the kind comments and feedback, though. It really does mean a lot to me. Smile

Now, that is an interesting idea KillerGremal, and shorter, more subdued elf ears would actually look better to me than the WoW Night elf ones. I'm afraid I will need to take a crash course in modding for Dungeon Siege 2, before I can do that though. All my (limited) knowledge and stuff is based around Dungeon Siege 1.

Although when I was doing some spring cleaning the other day, I found not only my copy of DS2 but Broken World as well. I guess that's a step in the right direction. Laughing out loud
