How terribly awkward

I would guess that Geordie is wearing a type1 armor with alpha channel. I think if you where to look at the alpha channel you would see that the black area of the channel matches the areas that you can see through Geordie. (or maybe it is the white area I kinda forgot) but adding b_toumei would fix him

Elf

Yup, that is exactly where the alpha channel is. Awesome, thanks for the tip.

Hehe, we are logged in here at the same time and cross posting. Smile

I did a bit of testing with both the standard CMA and my version that adds the * = b_toumei; line of code to male characters. Poor Geordie was missing body parts that matched the alpha channel when using the standard version of CMA. However using my version things looked like this.

The items in this image are mine from "Flowers Armor"

Elf

*edit* Derp, I see now what I did. I forgot to include the common part *with* the b_toumei. I just reread your blog.

Edit 2* Ok, I just tried again and I am still doing something wrong.

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I changed the pants.gas to "b_toumei" for the farmboy, but it still isn't working for me. Character creation screen shows invisible legs/pants and the armor in game is still wonky looking. This happened with both CM Adepts and Catmansion pluspack.

Kathy not sure what is going on, It would be useful to know what mods you have installed and if they are in the resources or dsloa folder. It might also have something to do with the tank priority CMA and LoU must have a tank priority higher than the standard game files. I have so many changes to both CMA and LoU beyond the stuff we are talking about I run a tank priority on LoU3.2 of 50 and on CMA of 700. You could try retanking CMA at a priority of 10 and see if things improve as it seems to me I had the same issue many years ago with the see through people Smile

Heh, no. I had a follow up appointment with the surgeon who did my spine surgery last September. We had to go into Worcester, which is a city in Mass. about an hour from my house.

*yawn* the littlest things tire me out now. Poo! Tongue

To the topic at hand: The only mods I have going are Adepts, Gayboy and LoU in the DSLOA folder and my armor mod in the resources. I am still not having any success, and have changed the priority as suggested.

The first time I just extracted the pants.gas and put in the b_toumei line so I don't think I missed any { or ;. Just to be sure, I reread it and did not see any typos...but my eyes get tired. But still, don't think that was the issue.

Second time, I took the pants file and tanked it with a priority of 10. Third time around I re tanked the entire adepts file with priority 10.

I totally put the blame for this on Geordie. Transparent jerk!

In the next day or two I will send you my a copy of my global directory as soon as I look at it to see what else might be different than the standard CMA.

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

kathycf, you do not set properly all the polygons in your armor when the texture map. Because you have a transparent armor at some places.

The cat mansion characters both mail and female have an extra layer in their armor and an entirely different mesh. you can take a standard armor and by adding an alpha channel to the image display skin where in the case of Kathy's armor shows transparent. I do not have time to display what the alpha channel for this armor looks like by you might wish to look at some of my other posts and kathy's too.

Elf

I looked at all the other files in the skins folder and could not find anything different from the standard version of CMA that would modify how armor is drawn. So give this a try. first rename the pants.gas in your version of adepts so that it will not be active such as ants.gas (eeek ants in my pants) then copy this file http://siegetheday.org/~bare_elf/ktest/pants.gas into the same location. Then retank ALL of CMA not just a sub set of the files. (I ran into a problem doing that when I was trying to figure out the issue) Or at least verify that your file matches mine exactly.

Thanks for that pants file, Lili. I will look it over tomorrow sometime.

Hi there. I'm not sure what you mean...are you asking bare elf if I am trying to make an armor?

Lord_Ozon wrote:

Well, not quite. I am using the standard type one armor, so no polygons or texture mapping was involved. I made some type 1 armor with alpha channels but I am having a problem getting them to work properly on the Catmansion boy model. They work fine on the Catmansion girl. Here is an example:

Kathy I believe what Lord Ozron is asking is exactly what are you attempting to do. Lord Osron what Kathy is attempting to do using Cat Madsion character models is to take standard DS1 and DSLoA armor and make them display the correct skin color where ever the alpha channel is black and armor where ever the alpha channel is white. This has to do with how the Cat Madsion Girl meshes where created many years ago by HamCat I discovered that I could create the same effects with the Cat Madsion Boys by adding the same line of code to the world/global/skins/pants.gas file for both male and female characters. However there seems to be some additional change that I made to my personal version of Cat Madsion Adepts. I have been tweaking, modifying and altering it ever since Iryan and I created it many years ago. I have modified CMA and Legends of Utrae to a point that I am sure no one who was there when the originals where created would even see it as the same mod. I am currently not in a location where I can access files on my modding computer but when I am I will upload some screen shots of what we are talking about. Lord Osron you might like to download a copy of Cat Madsion Adepts from this link http://www.siegetheday.org/~iryan/files/adeptsfixed.zip it is over 37 MB there might even be useful things you could use in your mod, so long as you remember to credit the creators.

Elf
edit Kathy what image editing program are you using? As I noted that your alpha channel images did not look exactly like mine mine gray scale and yours appear to contain more than just black and white.

Using a 256x256 image of anything in this case flowers

then using Corel Photohouse (an image editor I have had since Windows 98se) I created the this alpha channel

Then I used adobe photoshop 7 to put them together.
Which gave me the following result with the standard farmboy and farmgirl

The exact same image file with the exact same alpha channel produced this with the Cat Madsion Girl and boy.

So I have decided to go back to the unaltered versions of Cat Madsion Adepts and Legends of Utrae to see what happens. Will report back later

Lord_Ozon's picture

kathycf, now I understand what your problem is. Thanks for the clarification. Ок. Maybe you did not specify the elementary properties of the texture with an alpha channel in the gas file.
I just can not understand in detail what kind of effect you want to achieve using the alpha channel. Well, Kate, it would be good if you explained in detail the nature of his problem is offline, I modders who knows a lot and is able to ... I am sure that I would be able to help you;)
I, too, in his Siegelet often use the alpha channel while achieving different effects:

It appears when I go back to the unaltered versions of CMA and LoU3.2 the result is for my armor that the cat madsion boy looks as if he is wearing normal armor and the cat madsion girl displays the armor as described by the alpha channel. However when I place one of your design this is what happens.

So it could be as Lord Ozron suggests that either the alpha channel is not being described correctly in the associated gas file or the image editor you used to create the alpha channel is some how making an alpha channel that Dungeon Siege does not handle correctly. Check you latest mod the Kat-Madision one and make sure that you do not have both the photoshop image and a raw image of the same name. I used to do that all the time. If this is the case try the mod again with just the .psd files or just the .raw files. If that helps all is good if it does not try deleting the gas files. I will do the same here.

Elf

First try removing the gas files, because when i removed the gas files from your mod and made all the raw images back into psd images things worked correctly. then I looked at a few of my mods and it did not matter if the images where raw or psd but it did matter if there was the gas file associated with the image. with gas file transparent people without gas file no transparent people.

Elf

let me know what happens on your end.

adeptsfixed, I tested this mod ... good mod))) But it is not compatible with my Siegelet. When I installed this mod, I had exactly the same problem as with kathycf.

Lord_Ozon wrote:

Lord Ozon I can tell from the second set of images the reason you are having a conflict between your mod and Adepts is that both of them modify the character creation away from the standard farm boy and farm girl. Adepts is not compatable with any mod that changes the character creation screens.

Elf

I really appreciate the help and suggestions. Smile

The reason I say "ugh" is because nothing is working on my end. I'm not sure what is missing/different from my adepts and your version, Lili.

The female character works just fine, but the male went from transparent to solid white where the alpha channel would be. Sad Maybe the Catmansion guy in my version doesn't have a "skin" to display? He has his whole body covered except for arms and face. I'm puzzled.

I've been using gimp and photofiltre for all my modding. When I view the raws the alpha channel looks white. When I open it in gimp, it shows as a checkerboard. I don't know if that means anything!

I'm going to take a break now, and try again tomorrow. I'm so peeved! lol.

Lord Orzon, what is your siegelet about?

Kathy I be puzzled too. I will download the programs you are using and and build a small mod using them. As it stands now I can save an image with photoshop as either a psd or raw and the silly images display correctly on either sex. I have ran into a few problems with the gas file that the PSD to RAW program creates (something I downloaded years ago before finding a copy of photoshop).

I will let you know what happens
Elf

@kathycf The checkerboard is because the image is not flattened and the background is not the primary layer if I am not mistaken.

PhoeniX wrote:

Yes that might be the case, however since the images Kathy has created work correctly for the cat madsion girl but not the boys it might be something else. So Kathy when you have time can you tell me the steps you use to make the armor?

Elf

Lord_Ozon's picture

kathycf, speaking briefly about the history of my Siegelet ... - I often play with friends on the network in DS: LoА, played a lot))) I thought, why not make your Siegelet main characters that are my friends and I))) So, I took a couple of years ago for learning modding. So, I now virtually lot, from 3D models of characters, landscapes ... and ending with the creation of its own textures and innovations that have or who did not apply in Siegelets. With experience on the technical side, I decided to do a story about Hyperborea. The history of the plot will be based on network events, when we played with friends over the network. Unfortunately I can not reveal all the details of the plot of my Siegelet;) I'm sure it will be much more interesting when I do.
Approximate time to my Siegelet - June 2013.

I know that sounded kind of redneck like the last thing that a redneck says in his or her life "hey folks watch this". However I have been trying to duplicate what is going one with the cat madsion boys and yur version of CMA so I am attaching a zip file here that might help or not. Make sure to read the
Duh wreck shuns. http://siegetheday.org/~bare_elf/ktest/4Kathy.zip This should make your version more like mine. If this does not work I will just zip up my version and email it to you.

Elf

hehe

Just downloaded, thanks very much. It's very nice of you to take the time. Smile

re: Phoenix's comment. I forgot to mention that when I view the armor image with XnView (as a .psd) the areas where the alpha channel are look transparent.

As far as making the armor, I open the image in PhotoFiltre 7. I select the image "mode" to alpha channel. I sort out the areas to put the transparency with the eraser tool. I save as .png to preserve the alpha channel and open the file in gimp. I add in a second, transparent layer and save as .psd.

I've tried doing all the steps just with gimp, but it doesn't work properly once I see the armor in the game. The two program thingy yields the best results for me although I'm sure I am going about it all the wrong way. This method came about through trial and error, it's not like I know what I am doing, lol. Laughing out loud

I am probably not making sense as it is past my bedtime, so I hope you guys get what i am trying to say. Tongue

~ Lord Orzon, you will have to keep us posted about your siegelet.

The process you use to create an armor image makes sense to me, and not because it is past my bedtime. I first find an image either from the game or some image from my collection of images. For images not from the game it does not matter if the image is tiff, gif, jpg, bmp never tried png as it is not a file type that my antique image editor knows about. Using Corel Photohouse I save the image as a 256x256 psd image in my game images folder. Let us say the image is called Ivy.psd then using the same program I make the "alpha channel drawing" it is not an alpha channel yet and save it as Ivy-alpha.psd. Then I fire up photoshop 7 and open Ivy.psd and push the button to add an alpha channel. then I open ivy-alpha.psd and do a copy. then with the alpha channel open on ivy.psd do a paste. that places the image ivy-alpha into the alpha channel. then I save it as something like b_c_pos_a1_warshorts-01.psd or b_c_pos_a1_warshorts-01.raw thankfully photoshop does not create b_c_pos_a1_warshorts-01.gas as I have discovered the gas file created by a program like psd to raw creates issues that make the Cat Mansion girl and boy armor to go all wonky like either not displaying on the girls (like the kings new clothes)or giving transparent parts on the Cat Mansion Boys. So your process like mine was trial and error and so makes good scents to me. I know I could do the whole thing with photoshop or gimp but why change a process that has become second nature after 11 years. eeeek 11 years of modding DS and its relatives. the Elf runs around in circles and runs into a few walls while Dog barks lol lol
