The Rise and Fall of Dungeon Siege (DS 1)

I found this YouTube video earlier this evening. It was posted quite recently.

The Rise and Fall of Dungeon Siege

I only watched about 10 minutes, but it seems to be discussing Chris Taylor and how GPG came to be, as well as the different challenges encountered during the production of the game. Looks interesting and I plan to finish watching later on.

I also stumbled across another Dungeon Siege video . Some nit critiqued Dungeon Siege 1 a few years ago and among his complaints regarding game play and story was that his donkey was leading the party.

Apparently it was difficult to realize that he had only the donkey selected and was actually causing the issue by having the rest of the group on auto follow. Interpreting the pretty green triangles on the ground is HARD!! My judgement may be off as I am really tired and have a cold and am feeling especially cranky.

You can watch that video HERE.

Oh such crap. I guess not only politicians but some game players are brain damaged. We all know that people follow fake news.

Yes DS1 and DS2 are different and there are some things I like about both and dislike about both, but it is like comparing green apples to red apples - both are apples true - but taste, color, what they are used for are different. Pie anyone?

It received a long comment, three months ago, from "zhixalom", he of the inventory mod.

Now to watch the first, longer recommendation ...

Both have the same complaint that there's not much story, which I always found the biggest plus for the game. It didn't railroad you in the direction the author planned it, you could write your own story as you played. That starts from the "build your own class" concept they disdain, and our opinions just diverge from there. Neither video mentioned the ability to mod the games, again a huge plus for me.

Obsidian is very much in the "shut up and follow the story" camp, and I hate everything they do.

With none mod(s): DS1 & DS2 sucks (a little bit)
With mods: very fun to play!

Being forced to follow a specific story line is why I feel that the DnD modules by Weiss and Hickman are truly awful. If I wanted to follow a straight story I read a book

That Rise and Fall video irked me when it repeatedly said that the biggest complaint about DS1 was the auto-engage feature and "lack of direct control". Who are these people who complained about that?! I actually prefer DS1's auto-engage to DS2's necessity to click on each tiny nimble enemy you need to kill. Not having to micro-manage your party is what allowed DS1 to have so many tactical options compared to other Hack'n'Slash RPG's, including DS2. Oh, how I wish to be able to play DS2 with DS1 party size and party control system.

"In the realm of action-oriented video games, few are as zen as dungeon crawlers. Even at their most complex, demolishing and looting enemies . . . is as hypnotic as it is satisfying; their gameplay loops providing a perfect mixture of habitual repetition, and utter excitement. And . . . few games offered a better blend of these elements than Dungeon Siege."

About the one memorable thing the Rise and Fall video said.

And even that is false. Makes him sound like a person who sincerely thinks ARPGs are mindless, but tries to sell this percieved flaw as a good thing. "Habitual repetition", my foot. As if a large portion of ARPGs doesn't use randomly-generated worlds specifically to make the player think hard and adapt on every playthrough. I would like to see him fully play through any of these games without dying and then tell me it was basically like playing a walking simulator.

Renic there is mod that allows you and your party to auto engage enemies and auto drink health and mana potions. Lady Femme's BW Auto Engage Mod. It is in the Broken World Download Area. Sorry she did not do a version for DS2 that I know of.

Isn't this mod incorporated into the Aranna Legacy mod, or the Legendary Mod?

Not sure about the Aranna Legacy mod but yes in the Legendary mod. I was talking about just regular versions of the game.
